The problem with IEMs / Smartphones in public places

I've posted this in this forum as its a problem all IEM users face....when someone tries to talk to you or you want to hear an announcement you have to stop the music, yank out one of your monitors and get the person to repeat themselves. Now IEMs are a bit of a pain to remove and re-insert over and over. So...

Does anyone know if there is an app for smartphones whereby the inbuilt mic is used to pick up ambient sound which is piped through your earphones and the music is temporarily paused until you are ready to go back to your music?

Cheers

Gus

Etymotic's Awareness app uses the mic on the phone or the headphones with levels of sensitivity. It doesn't pause I believe though.

Hmm must look that up. Sorry Dan I edited my post's titles to make it more obvious what I was talking about.

Gus,

With an iPhone 4 or 5, when someone calls me the music is paused automatically and I can use the built in microphone of the iPhone to talk to the caller. I have used both my SE535 or 846 this way.

Sorry for not being clearer. The app acceses either the mic on the cans or the mic on the phone. You set it to whatever sensitivity level you desire. So either a whisper can trigger the mic or something louder. You hear both through the headphones though. If you upgrade (ie pay) you get the ability to hit an onscreen icon that will pause the music, which I think is silly since you can already do this on the music app anyway. But you never have to take your earphones out.

Another option you might want to look into is the Shure "push to hear" module which lets you hold a button (or something like that - I've never actually seen one) and hear its mic instead of your music.  They come up ocasionally in the FS section but I don't think you can buy one new.

Again I should have made myself clearer, my fault. What I am looking for is an app which will allow me to switch on the phone's mic so I can hear someone talking to me and at the same time pause the music. This would obviously necessitate me having to pull the phone out to activate this which I think is better that having to take the earphone out each time.
