Denon Ah-d5000 vs Ah-d7100

Hi head-fi community. I am relatively new here and this is my first thread I have created. I was just wondering if anyone has both the Ah-d5000 and Ahd-7100 and has compared them. I just purchased a pair of Ah-d5000's for £100 and am extremely happy with them but i was also able to get the 7100's for £150 but passed up the offer as i had just spent £100. I was just wondering if i made a mistake going for the 5000's over the 7100's although i am still very happy at the price i paid :D

Thanks.

d5000 (pre and post modification) destroys the 7100's with Electronic music.

Thanks gibbro. Do you recommend markl's mod? seems like a lot of work, wondered if its worth the effort seen as i already really enjoy them

The markl mod noticeably refines the sound, if you spend some time with the unmolested 5000's and like them the mods will just improve on the sound. The bass is tamed and more controlled, it still hits as hard and goes deep but it does not drown out any of the mids and is tightened up. The high's are not as bright but are just as detailed. Its all about diminishing returns with the mods unfortunately. I recommend if you spend some time with it and want some more refinement of the sound, get some aftermarket pads, buy the markl diy kit, find a d7000 cable (ive seen plenty around) and play with a soldering iron or get a friend to help you then if you want more buy some cups. In that order. The DX000 are easily toyed with and are not hard to take apart and put back together.

TLDR: Determine if you like the sound first and if not go try some LCD2's :). You may notice little or a big difference in mods, everyone's ears are different.

Thanks for the feedback i will keep them unmodified for the time being but if i do crave more detail then i will give it a go. I would really like a pair of LCD2's but the prices are ridiculous :)

Also what relatively cheap setup would you recommend for the denons? currently i am using the hisoundaudio nova n3 with a pa2v2 however I use this for portable cans and was wondering if detail could be gained by buying a desktop amp with a better source. was debating buying the fiio e09k as i have heard it is good for a cheap price.
