Headset or IEM/Microphone options that don't go over my head

Thread Starter

This is a bit of an odd request, but I recently had some minor surgery on the top of my head, and can no longer wear my old headset as it would sit squarely on the area where it's been operated on. I primarily use the headset for skype and mumble/vent for gaming, so I'm looking more for budget than quality. Hoping not to spend more than $30 if possible.

So my main questions:

1. Are there any headsets that don't sit on top of my head? What about cheap earbuds + mic combinations?

2. If I do go the stand-alone mic route, it would be nice if it works with my VSonic GR07 since I'm really enjoying the audio quality on those. I looked at the Zalman mic, but it requires a far thicker cable than my earbuds currently have, so I'd have no place to clip them.

Any help would be appreciated!

Have you looked at the Blue Yeti usb mic?

Very reasonable at about $100, and superb quality.  Yeti has a built-in "no-latency" stereo out jack which will probably work with your GR07s.  Worst case, you could use one of the front speaker outputs on your motherboard/soundcard for your buds.
