Need help choosing cans better than BD DT770 under $1,000

Hi guys, hope you can help me make some decisions for the upcoming Black Friday. ;) Presently I'm using Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250 ohm, which is a nice set of cans but they're pushing 3 years of heavy abuse and I had to solder the cord once, so I may be ready to retire these and shop for something new - and maybe even better sounding!

Here's what I'd like to have:

- Durable. That's a must - I'm using the cans 12+ hours a day! Should be comfortable, too.

- Detailed. I listen to many genres; mostly jazz and fusion with lots of horns and percussion. Hearing that 15-th trumpet in an orchestra makes me happy.

- High impedance is ok. I'm using Technics SA-DA10 receiver to drive my cans, with the source being either CD player or FLAC/ALAC over S/PDIF from my MB Pro.

- Either open or closed, I'm not sure about this one. I won't disturb anyone in my home office, so that's not a consideration.

- Don't care how they look, it's all about the sound.

Thanks in advance!

Audeze LCD-2. Great phones, big squishy pads. The downside is that they are heavy.

FWIW, the Hifiman HE-400 has a similar "flavor" as the DT990, but it's clearly better in every respect. Bass is deeper and has more impact, imaging is more defined, all frequencies are more detailed and faster, etc. You name it, HE-400 does it better. But they both appeal to the same sort of tastes.

Hifiman HE-6 + HE-Adapter. You can find used under 1000$, in jazz or classic they are phenomenal.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Looks like I'm into a serious neck muscle workout; hauling half a kilo on my head for 12 hours a day sounds like a challenge! :) They don't make 'em light anymore I take it...

@SgtMattBaker Quick googling turned up that these need a powerful amp to drive, sounds interesting. I believe my receiver has enough power to drive these, but then again an idea of $1,300 pair of cans driven by an ordinary, albeit quite nice, A/V receiver may suggest that an upgrade to $1,500+ headphone amp is imminent... Woe to my wallet. :)

It's quite interesting to note that nobody has suggested Sennheiser HD650; I thought they were the kind of staple cans around here?

Vintage Stax setup or just a new basic one is worth looking into, though generally big orchestras is not what most Stax from the lambda series does best. Generally extremely good with classical and good with jazz as well.
