I have been gone from Head-Fi for awhile due to a very busy school schedule.
I know there are several threads and recommendations online but I haven't found an opinion that helped my situation. I have had my eyes on the HE-400's for over a year but due to cost I have not pulled the trigger. This Christmas I am having my dad (hopefully, fingers crossed) purchase a pair for me. If not I will use my Christmas money towards one + amp as I have read the Dragonfly doesn't drive them to their fullest potential. So my question is simple: what amp do I want? I need something under $250 which led me to the Magni or Asgard 2. I have read that the Magni does the HE-400's justice but others say that the Asgard is a much better amp for orthos. Some can't tell the difference. Which should I go for? Am I going to hear much of a difference between the two? If so how much of a difference is there?
Also I will need a cable to get the signal from my Dragonfly to the amp. Any suggestions? The AQ Evergreen is what I think I want, but maybe there is something out there that is more highly regarded?
In case it matters right now I am running this setup: Dell XPS 15 L502x -> Foobar -> WASAPI -> AQ Dragonfly -> HD25-II. The HE-400's will be my at home cans while I take my HD25-II's around campus and in the office.
