Help me choose a pair of portable headphones, for everything from metal to jazz!

Hi, new poster here! Just found out my cans are broken, so I'd appreciate some suggestions a new pair

I currently have the Audio-Technica ATH-ES55, but those have been a disappointment. They are uncomfortable for longer sessions and the sound isn't very impressive either. Now the plug is broken, and I've only had them for like 1-2 years.

Before that, I had a pair of Audio-technica ATH-FC700 and I liked those, while the comforability was an issue there as well.

Now to the question, which ones should I go for now? The budget is pretty limited, so please keep the suggestions under $100.

My priorities would be as follows:

1. Durability, especially the cable/plug ("90 degree plug" preferably)

2. Comfort

3. Mobility, I'll mostly be using them on the commute to work (so on-ears preferred, but over-ears not out of the question)

4. Sound

Good looks wouldn't hurt either. ;)

My music taste is pretty expansive, but it's mostly rock and acoustic stuff. Some jazz and even metal in there too.

Thanks in advance!

I have the JVC S400:

1. They have a 90 degree plug.

2. In terms of comfort, I would say they are on par with most on-ears, i.e. you can wear them for 1-2 hours before your ears start to get sore.

3. Portability - they fold up in 2 different configurations.

4. They have a fairly balanced sound signature so they should be suitable for most music genres.

Thank you.

The situation is pretty urgent (who can live for days without headphones?!), so I placed an order for a pair of black-gold JVC HA-S400s. EUR 38/ USD 50 incl. postage at Amazon, I thought that was pretty good.

I was particularly convinced by this thread that I found while googling around:

Anyway, I hope these will do the trick. Thanks again wskl.
