If you want to try something different, Easy Q is very good. http://www.rs-met.com/freebies.html
 

You also need a VST wrapper. http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=84947

 

This isn't necessarily easier than what you're trying to do, but sometimes a completely different approach works better when the software elves are being uncooperative.

I'm probably doing something wrong. 

 

manbear...I extracted all the files from both of the downloads you listed for me to try...The same thing is happening. foobar isn't seeing the contents of any of the folders, so I can't do anything further.

 

ugh.
