Need Help with choosing home headphones!

Thread Starter

Looking to upgrade to a nice pair of cans for home use.  Having a tough time figuring out which pair would best fit my needs.  Some background info:

Currently own

Ultrasone HFI-780 - Nice bass, harsh highs, very fatiguing, uncomfortable

ATH-AD700 - Super comfy, not enough bass, like the open airy clarity

Panasonic RP-HTF600 - lots of bass, moderately comfortable, decent for price.

Set up with the Fiios E07k DAC/amp on the desktop.

Looking at:

Mad Dogs

KEF M500

B&W P7

Hifiman HE-400

Phillips X1

PSB m4U1

Trying to keep it under $500, mostly listen to hip-hop, EDM, some rock, pop. Isolation is not an issue.

Ideal headphone should be comfortable, decent bass, clear mids/highs and not fatiguing.  What do you guys think is my best bet?  Thanks in advance!

I have the HE-400. They are well-suited to the genres you mention. Amazing bass and good clarity in the mids and highs. However, the highs are on the fatiguing side unless you EQ.

See Innerfidelity's recent review of the NAD VISO HP50. Could be another option to add to your list smily_headphones1.gif
