Etymotic ER 4 S vs ER 4 PT

Thinking about getting either.  With the ER 4 PT, would there be loss of accuracy by attaching that thingy on the end or would I be better off with the plain ER 4 S?  I know that the ER 4 PT would be more versatile, but I can't help but thinking that there would be some accuracy lost even with that  thingy attached at the end converting it to an ER 4S.

ER4P is good for mainstream DAPs, ER4S needs a good amping to show all their skills.

No amp required IMO. Get the S.

Nothing lost with the adaptor.  No need to worry.

I have owned all of the Ety IEM's.  Particular to ER4....even the P I would want to amp but not critical.  But the S must be amped unless it is for background listening only under 60dB.

FYI.....with the Etys at $299, I would easily spend another $100 for the Grado GR10 which is basically a ER4P that is fuller sounding and more musical.

There is a marked difference in sound with the ER4S amped vs unamped. It still sounds good unamped, however, the fullness and depth of the music as great.

I don't see why it should be different if the only difference between them is that resistor. Versatility wins in this case over concerns about loss in accuracy IMO. Good luck!

I got myself the ER4PT and no regrets. ER4PT without adapter for iphone listening and ER4PT with adapter for home listening with my Audio Gd NFB11.32. I've got a CEntrance Hifi-M8 DAC/AMP recently so the adapter is permanently connected to the dac/amp for iphone playback.
