Looking for a sealed or well-isolated set with good detail <$400...

...that isn't the K550. I'd like something that has a good clamp-like fit (a la HD558), which doesn't require a crap ton of fiddling around to get a good seal. Preferred (p)leather earpads and detailed sound. Velour is acceptable if the set still provides good isolation. Soundstage isn't as important, as long as it provides better soundstage than typical closed cans.

I'm a little torn at my choices right now. Here's what I've looked at, and why they won't work for me:

-AKG K550: Too finicky about fit. They barely provide any clamping force of their own, yet they sound poor if they're not glued to your face. I've tried them on and did not like the feel.

-Shure SRH-840: Judging the sonic signature based on reviews, this is the most tempting choice right now. The only issue is the lack of detail.

-Shure SRH-940: Treble-oriented, plus the build quality issue...

-Beyerdynamic DT770: Recessed mids and a bit bassy.

I'd look into the KEF M500 PSB M4U1, or NAD VISO HP50.

Other options include the B&W P7, Focal Spirit Pro and Classic.

I would prefer circumaural. Are there not many of those that are sealed? I guess closed with good isolation will have to do. These are for long gaming sessions, and I don't know how comfortable those will be.

All of those are circumaural except the m500.

My definition of that must be different. I thought the DT770 or K702 were circumaural. I prefer over ear, not on ear. Those only look about the size of the Sennheiser Momentum, which is categorized by the manufacturer as "on ear".

They aren't as small as the momentum (and the momentum is over ear...for some)

Try the Sound Magic HP 100. I found them to be on par with the K550 for the most part, they had better mids and highs over the K550, but the K550 had slighty better mid bass. Also the Depth of the K550 was a smidge better.

However you could also pay just $50 more and get a Used Shure 1540! The 1540 are selling here on hear for for about $450 used. THere is on in the FOr Sale thread and many more will pop up. Honestly. if you can afford the extra $50... go for the 1540!

Saving for the SRH-1540 is tempting. I am, however, looking for something with better isolation than that at the moment.

Which of the headphones mentioned have the most detailed sound? I'll give some of the tighter ear coupling headphones a chance.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks. That one seems ideal.

Looked up on some of the other ones, and it seems that the Viso HP50 leaks like a reused paper cup. The M4U1 seems to be a good similar set, but I'm worried about the cracking issues similar to the SRH-940. The B&W P7 appears to be decent, but I did try the P5 at a Best Buy and couldn't stand it. Having a flat response, the Focal Spirit Pro is my number one choice from Trunks's suggestions.

My gratitude towards you both :P
