Need help choosing a budget DAC for Rega Brio-R amp and Monitor Audio silver RX-1

Hi guys,

I'm new at this so please excuse my ignorance. I recently bought my first sound system. I have a Rega Brio-R amp and Monitor Audio silver RX-1 and I have a sonos ZP90 plugged into the amp. I'm a little disappointed with the sound and obviously have no way of adjusting the bass/treble etc. A friend suggested either getting a DAC or a USB audio interface. I'm totally clueless, and don't have a lot to spend. Does anyone have a suggestion for a cheap DAC or usb interface that might improve my setup?

Thanks in advance!

I think your friends suggestion is a very good one. Using a USB DAC will allow you to play back music from your computer and also EQ the sound. In general I would advice not to hold back on your source component as holding back here will hold back your entire system. For gear with a great price/performance ratio I would suggest audio-gd. A Chinese company that's making high quality gear.

Thanks Jasper! So I should just wait until I have $500+ to spend on a decent DAC?

It doesn't need to be that much they do one for 350 USD the NFB-3.33. You can also check out the 2nd hand section on this site. Plenty of good gear ends up there with people upgrading.
