Audio Technica m50 , DT 770 pro or akg 550?

Thread Starter

Hello there, I need some help I don't have much experience with high end cans(best I ever owned were some skullcandy ) I want to get a good pair now want some good overall sound quality and some good bass is appreciated too, but off course on a budget, mostly to use on my phone (motorola razr and my macbook)  ;).

From my research those 3 standed out in front of the others, but I hear that the sony mdr-r1 are a good choice too (maybe?)  and they all cost roughly the same on amazon (130£) and I would preferably not to purchase an amplifier.

I might go a lower budget too if things get too rough (student life =/) so I was having a look on the sony mdrxb600(44£) that was also an interesting choice, although much inferior than the other choices are they any good?

All thoughts are appreciated

Thanks guys and sorry for my bad english

The cheap sonys will probably sound like a pile of crap, from my experience with the XB series.

I've only heard K550 and DT770, i'd say the Beyer has more bass and treble, while AKG is more neutral.

JVC HA-S500 (32-Ohm), on-ear, folding, closed headphones, $60.
