While I have been reading head-fi for about 6 mos, I am a new poster.

I decided to get a decent set of phones about 6 mos ago. After tons of research and listening to dozens of phones settled on the PSB m4U 2. It is one of the best purchases I have made. Unfortunately it led me down this rabbit hole of good sound. I had to re-rip all my CD's to lossless, buy better quality CD's I already had etc. I want more...

I currently play through a iPhone 4s, and while my research says that is one of the best sounding phones, I want to turn it into a digital source. I am wondering about the synergy of the PSB M4U headphones and the new hifi m8 DAC/AMP. I have read that some combos are not as good as others. Thank you from the newb.

I must say that the M8 is quite neutral and doesn't color the sound at all. If you like the sound sig coming from your iPhone (which is pretty much flat, save for an ever so sleight treble boost, them you'll enjoy the M8.

Thank you for the response.
I like neutral (ie PSB phones) with a slight base boost. I see that I can EQ up the base on the M8. My only concern is I read that the M8 has a slightly dark sound. I don't feel the PSB's are dark, so I am hoping that will work. Was hoping someone had that combo with feedback.

The M8 doesn't have a dark sound. It's right down the center, IMO. This is coming from an HD800/UERM owner...

The bass boost on the M8 is quite nice--better than the C5's boost, if I might add.

No problem--I'm glad to have helped you. I advise not ordering the M8 straight from CEntrance, as you will need to wait a while. TTVJ or Moon Audio would be your best bet.

Just saw this post. New guy here too. Wanted to respond because I am sitting here listening to this exact combo right now. Hfi M8 and PSB M4U-1. They make a great match, because I think they the PSB's can be a bit bright at times. Also, the Hifi M8 always blows my mind at how well it produces the low end signals and the PSB's keep perfect stride with it. I can here every bass note as it was intended. It's truly a nice combo. If you haven't pulled the plug yet, don't hesitate and do it now.

Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't pulled the plug yet as I was waiting on more feedback about the Sony ZX1 and the Fiio X5. I am still strongly considering the HiFi M8, however, I would really prefer a great sounding all-in-one device. Thanks again for the feedback.
