"To wrap up and considering the competition, the Eddie Current Balancing Act is a clear Blue Moon Award winner as a headphone driver with first-class add-on preamp functionality,"

"I’ll cut straight to the core of my sonic impressions and flat-out declare this amp, easily heard within the first few minutes of listening, to offer the most expansive, most realistic soundstaging of any headphone amp I have ever listened to. Its damn right other-worldly, and is simply instant transportation into something very hard to describe but easily heard and felt."

The Balancing Act brings a new level of listening luxury to high-end audio. Painstakingly created with custom features built into the unit for the discriminating audiophile, the BA delivers sublime listening pleasure. It is also designed to serve as a preamp and will drive balanced lines for optimum speaker listening enjoyment. When it’s all about the music, the Balancing Act is your performance soundstage. Even the hardest-to-drive headphones will sound simply amazing.
This is one of the finest headphone amps ever created. I've have been listening to my speakers more and more and even though i'm sure I'll kick myself, it just doesn't make sense for me to keep this piece. I've been using this for my LCD-3's (also for sale) and also as a pre-amp for my magnepans for a while until I started using the Classe Audio integrated DAC + preamp.
This is unit number 15, one of the ones from the original series. This is one of the few BAs that was upgraded to the Alps RK-50 potentiometer, which is arguable the finest potentiometer on the market. The volume knob alone selling for $1,000. Craig no longer performs this upgrade! And, to do this upgrade you had to source the potentiometer yourself (from Japan) and ship it to Craig to install.
This is the 300B version of the BA. Included are the stock Electro Harmonix 300B and reissue Russian Tung Sol 6SN7. The stock tubes have barely any hours on them.
And of course, the reason they have so few hours is because of the KR-PX4's. Do your homework on the BA, and you'll see over and over that people keep coming back to the KR-PX4 as the power tubes you've got to have for this amp. KR-PX4's sell for $730/pair. They are included with the sale.
Also included with this deal is the NOS Tung Sol "BGRP" 6SN7 driver. Again, read the threads and you'll see that the BGRP is the holy grail driver for this amp. Worth $450 for the single tube as it is not being made any longer.
Also included are two other driver tubes. The beautiful and lush sounding Brimar 6SN7GT/CV1988 Brown Base, another tube in the $250 range for one. Then there is the Shuguang Treasure CV-181z. This tube is working perfectly right now, however there is something loose inside the valve, rattling around. It's been that way since it arrived but it is working perfectly and sounds great. I've read other reports of similar issues with the Shuguangs. I will pack the tube well, but I can't guarantee that whatever is moving in there won't ruin the tube by the time it gets to you, so this particular tube comes with no warranty that it won't be doa.
Finally, included are some replacement bulb covers I purchased from Mouser. These part numbers are all listed somewhere in the BA thread. Basically, it comes stock with an amber cover over the bulb, but I wanted blue to match the rest of my rig. The parts were so cheap that I bought a few different colors.
Stock DC connector cable and power cord are included, along with all original foam and boxes.
We're going to have to discuss shipping costs on a case by case basis, depending on your location. This will need to be shipped in three boxes. The power supply is in it's own box, then the amp is in a box, and then I will need to box up all of the tubes separately And the only way to ship this is INSURED! Shipping will not be cheap. I live in the Seattle area, so if a buyer is anywhere even close then I would be happy to drive up to two hours each way to meet you and do this deal in person, rather than ship the amp. You can also come to my place to demo the amp.
I could go on and on about how great this amp is, but you already know that, that's why you've read this far. I'll just say that the amp was quite a hit at the NYC head-fi meet back in June, even Steve Guttenberg from CNET spent about 20 minutes listening to it. So if you want a Balancing Act and don't want to wait for Craig to do a run, this is your deal because these don't come up for sale very often.
I'm asking $4,900 for this package. Craig charges $3850 for the BA, $225/set for the EH300B's, $250 for the reissue Tung Sol, $20 for the 6X4 rectifiers, and $730 for the KR-PX4's. Then add the $950 upgraded pot, and the TungSol and Brimar, and you can see that this is about $6,400 worth of gear brand new. In the original runs, the stock EH and Tung Sol reissue were not even offered as an option, they were included but the base price was higher. Given the scarce availability of the amp, the long waits for Craig to do a run of these, and the upgraded pot that is no longer available, the price is somewhat firm.
Send me a private message with inquiries. I'm happy to answer any questions by phone or facetime as well. Thank you for taking the time to read my listing.
