@angelo898 can you please tell us how your Windows X hardware mod sounds?

And/Or is there anybody else who had this hardware mod made who can share his impressions?

Thanks!

Two questions for fellow Calyx M / iTunes Users:

1) Is there a secret to ensure all album art shows up on Calyx (i.e. file type, size)?

2) Do any iTunes users use 3rd party software like (XLD) to ripe CDs?

The only thing I would recommend is to embed your artwork and make sure that the artwork file is .jpg and not .png. The editor I use is Yate for the Mac and it does everything I want and then some. I only scratch the surface of its capabilities.

The only problem with iTunes is that you can't rip FLAC (although iTunes does rip ALAC, Apple's flavor of Lossless) so you would need a third party app such as XLD, if that's your preference. I use Fission.

The main thing I've found is that the artwork should be 500X500 pixels or smaller.  I've had trouble with larger artwork.

Thanks chawya22 & ddoyle777. I find if I let iTunes do all the work about 70% of the art shows up. I'll look into Yate.

I normally rip aiff in iTunes but I've begun to notice various click and pops. I've determined it's not the IEMs or Calyx so now I think it's the rips themselves. I'll keep digging. Let me know if anyone else has advise on ripping.

I came across this thread and now I'm inspired!

Is the DSD file on internal memory or an SD card? If an SD card, what speed is the card?

Definitely worth a try. DSD is high-bandwidth and a cheap, slow card might be not be fast enough.

Hi all,

I did send my Calyx M to Windows X for hardware mod and now wanted to show my impressions:

Windows X did the mod quite fast. Cost was 200 $ (I already had firmware update from him a few months ago, which was 100 $)

So was it worth? I would say yes, definitely, if you like your Calyx M sound. (I could not compare it to another Calyx M, but I know about 30 songs soundquality wise by heart, so I could compare the old sound to the new one from my memory)

- Bass impact is definitely better (I listen with Oppo PM3´s, so it´s great that there is more slam, because those cans lack a bit of that IMO)

- more balanced output throughout the whole frequency band

- depth improvement

- overall more "musical" output and more fun to listen to my favourite tracks

As said, I recommend the Windows X hardware mod (as well as firmware update from him) to everybody who likes the Calyx sound and who don´t want to upgrade to a DAP like AK that cost way too much for me IMO.

Thanks to Windows X, you did a great job!

My only problem with the M is, no utilities to help with battery life (no sleep function or idle power off). Did the Window X FW update address these issues? I still consider the M the best sounding DAP I own.

Alas, those problems remain ...
