That would be impressive... I'm just confused, I've read varying reports of battery life... 7 is decent and more than enough for me... 4.5, that's another story.

@cooperpwc-If the M is close to that rig, I am in too!!

Just to let you guys know the amp section is not that string, it will be fine for iem but i am yet to test it with er4s.

The current firmware has 5 hours for red cd but the local dealer said that calyx will improve it to the target playback time: 7 hours.

7 hours is fine for me...I'd be happy...

@audionewbi-I only have IEMS, but that being said I like music loud, thumping bass, etc. I also have a zx1, which is notoriously weak, but I get by with it, well, somewhat get by.

Hmm... I need to go measure it again. I tend to rotate my daps. smily_headphones1.gif but what I'll say is that the battery life is sufficient for my usage. smily_headphones1.gif

I have been spending a lot of time with this rig of recent. It is simple superb. Yes it is chunky and it is not light but it just sounds great. Size is not everything. (Seriously girls. Hah!) I am thinking that the M has to match the sound quality of this rig for me to justify the expenditure. Can any DAP match the Pico Power on the backend? I guess that I will find out.

Nice rig. Sprks01 lent me his Pico Power (not burnt in). I agree Pico Power is an excellent sounding amp (mid-gain) for iems. As for DAP, i feel HM-901 (minibox) could match at least 95% of the quality. However, i can see that your setup is excellent considering I also tested the line out of X5.

Interesting comment about the mid gain. I also sometimes think that it edges out the low gain; other times I think that it is just a question of volume matching. I shall explore some more.

Yes, the X5 line out is one of the hidden gems of the headphone audio world. The firmware is pretty good now too which makes it a serious player when combined with a high-end amp - if you do not mind carrying a stack.

One place where this stack is going to massacre the M always is on battery life: 12+ hours for the X5; 20+ hours for the Pico Power. However you pay in weight.

(Sorry everyone for the OT.)

I think those who are in market for M should wait for cowon DAP.

i think i need to go back to 0.5 firmware, i hear a change in sound which is due to that different impedance setting.

Why you want to revert to 0.5?  You're on 0.95 now? Did you try 0.6?  I'm now starting to be confused as seems most earlier report is claiming better (less full or congested) SQ with the newer version compared to 0.5.....

I'm still waiting on a comprehensive DX90 vs M comparison from someone that owns both or compared them side by side extensively, not just from memory. Would be good if the latest firmwares for both daps were used as it seems both are moving in the right direction with their latest firmwares (DX90  fw2.1 and M fw.95)

It is definitely volume matching. The loudness contours of our hearing change with volume. I caught myself out thinking there was a difference some time back.

I need to do a proper listen with the 0.5, I rushed it too quick. I have not tried 0.6 yet. I notice the impedance setting they added is more so a gain setting than anything else.

So far the best pairing is with EX-1000 and IM04.

I hope to read impressions on the sound based on non-beta firmware, i.e. 1.0 or above...
