But the question really, especially on this thread, is why the Calyx M, who has a touchscreen, not considered top......

I thought it is considered top?
But what I find more disturbing is why AK100II is also not considered top when it's nearing the $1000 region.
Is it just because AK has 2 other lineups which cost much higher? Even though the AK100II is priced almost the same as some of the top DAPs. Spec wise is almost just as impressive too.
Sad to see that what is considered top is judged by price instead of performance.
In a sense DX90 should also be considered one of the top.

I thought so too despite some flaws here and there (most DAP have some anyway).... I was referring to the post CHG was responding....

Ak240, Calyx M, Cowon P1 and iBasso R10 are top four. I have two of them.

Good point! Certain manufacturers knows this too...and DAPs under 1000usd will not be taken seriously...

Many months ago, head-fiers are praising about how fluid Calyx M UI is... before release...

I agree. I think it's the assumption behind price marketing.

After the youtube release on the UI demo, most of us were concern on the lag, but their CEO said it was the youtube video capture which was lagging while their UI was smooth and fluid. Lol so much for honesty.

Still pretty much the same actually: the Calyx M brings to the table a much richer and textured sound, while maintaining a good degree of clarity. Great depth of soundstage. On the other hand, the AK240 is more transparent and neutral, with a wider soundstage. Not that the sound is thin by any account, just not as dense as the Calyx M.

Ultimately, both sigs are thoroughly enjoyable in their own right. smily_headphones1.gif

I'll second this. With my IEMs there is a touch more harshness in the treble of the Calyx M compared to the AK240. Headphone drive, balanced, with the AK240 is considerably better too.

Some interesting things with the new firmware (or maybe I missed them before): The "Impedance matching" setting and the ability to disable the magnetic slider volume.

Agree, Currawong: the AK240 seems more refined. But the Calyx M deserves more credit than it seems to get. smily_headphones1.gif

I'm very curious about the new FW myself. I am in Bali this week. When I get home, I'll definitely update and see how it goes. For me, what is most significant is support for ALAC files, which most of my tagged files are. smily_headphones1.gif

Definitely considering its price. The UI is still somewhat laggy, but not enough to bother me too much.

I was there when the iBasso DX100 with its crazy problems at the beginning. smily_headphones1.gif You can understand why I see the UI in a different light. ;p

my Calyx is v 0.6, Abing it with ak240 using roxanne UF:

the roxanne sounds thicker on ak240 with less impact bass while on calyx, there is more clarity, sounds thinner but bass has more impact. sound is brighter. is there anything i should update on the calyx?

The latest firmware is 0.95.

Interestingly the unit I demoed last week sounded a bit brighter and thinner than the one I have now.

Are these changes in sound due to firmwares really small that are only detectable in an quiet indoor environment e.g. office?
