$999 Calyx M with DXD + DSD, 64GB + SD + µSD storage - Page 225

Replying to my own comment from yesterday, I just finished loading hundreds of FLAC and a couple of DSD albums into the M, and now the album view is fine. I was using Apple lossless files yesterday so I guess the cause of the problem was the buggy M4A support.

I just installed this firmware and I must say the so-called folder play is horribly implemented. I expected directory browsing but all it gives you is a flattened list of directories containing music files..totally useless... And to make it worse, the album view now has all these directories mixed in. It's confusing...

^ Good to know. I use tag-based browsing in Foobar but generally hate it on a DAP. It might work for me on the M though.

I relistened to a demo unit at a store I frequent , i found that the calyx actually sounds nicer than my first listen for some odd reason

any thought on its battery life after firmware update?

I just sent a message to Calyx developers. I wish they fix folder view option soon. It's apparent that they're not audiophiles.

Did you send it to ask at calyx dot kr?

Calyx are surely technically very capable (their Femto DAC seems to be highly regarded), it's just that they are inexperienced in DAP and UI development.

I will do some tests in the next couple of days.

Exactly. I sent a message to their facebook account. I will send an e-mail as well. This must be fixed.. otherwise this player's high capacity storage is unusable.

I'd encourage other users to send them an e-mail regarding this folder view problem.

ask@calyx.kr

Before they fix this problem, no one will get access to 400GB of files. :confused_face(1):

Because using artist or album view is too hard for you or your library is a mess?  I agree that folder view should work like it would on a Windows or Mac BUT I'm never going to use it so that it works oddly isn't important.  The only must have for me in a dap is a play all songs randomly option.  That's it, that's all.  If it can be done by artist or genre... that's gravy.

what you're talking about is shuffle function.. that can be done easily on many players.

The folder directory view function is very very basic function. You can find this in a 10 year old iriver mp3 player as well.

I don't see anything wrong with requesting this function. I hope many users here send them e-mails to encourage them to update the firmware again.

Request the feature, yes.

Saying the player is unusable, no.

Neither the current iPod nor my previous Zune have the feature and Apple seems to be doing alright.  Zune not so much ;)

That's why people made Rockbox OS. I'm sure there are more people using rockbox over Apple firmware.

Or... Just tag your library, as long as it takes. wink.gif

It's not unusable at all if you have you have a large pop/rock collection correctly tagged. If you have a large classical collection sorted by composers in folders, then yes it is unusable. I didn't realise that I have literally hundreds of files titled "Symphony No ....". Try searching through those by playing the first few notes. That said, it sounds so good that I am making the effort with my 440gb of classical and jazz.

being able to play the files from folder view is a pretty basic feature.... it is a disaster if an audiophile player does not have it

Everyone, please send your feedback to ask@calyx.kr

They need to hear us! this should be fixed. I have few hundred GB of classical music as well. There's no way I can name all the folders and tag songs one by one. It will take forever.

I hope they listen to us.
