I think that may have been mentioned by one or two people in this thread, some time ago, but I can't remember who...

Heck, it might even have spawned a thread of its own, but again, I can' recall who by and perhaps my memory may be wrong

I enjoyed listening to the Hugo at the Bristol UK show, earlier this year (with Noble K10s), and I'm really looking forward to hearing it again in the next few days. Lovely piece of kit. Just wish there was an integrated/single-box 'DAP' version of the Hugo... SIGH..!

AK120II sounds right up your alley. Cheaper than AK240 with expected price around $1799. And based on very few early impression from a Chinese reviewer and a Japanese comment, they preferred it to the AK240

Is it @Mython or @kkcc who brought the possibility of the Geek Wave player? Specs wise it looks promising but I still can't solve the issue of standalone operations. Does it have any navigability by itself (library and/or directory browsing) or it's a totally iDevice/Andoid slave?

I am spotting this one too, I don't mind the single microSD slot, I am actually used to it and don't mind switching cards if necessary or for that matter if it OTG then add another one that way.

They have a very basic UI and button navigation for standalone. LED screen expected maybe around 1 inch?
But who knows with alot of complains they might expand it..

Ah ok, I figured that much now can one operate it in Bluetooth mode and get away with it on commute? Sure enough I always carry both buy I wouldn't want to leave my phone with B on all the time, the battery depletes very quickly (why I always turn it off). The other last possibility is FiiO X7 however unless they can operate the 9018 efficiently or use dual 9018M, it won't be as interesting. Still a long way before knowing what direction it'll take.

Hi guys, I just heard that the price of M will be 1400~1500 dollars after the official launching.
Good luck guys~

lol. It already looks like a dead duck now and they even increase the price? From where they get this strength?

Dealer mark-up, mostly, maybe with some import taxes thrown-in for good measure.

But yeah, charging customers 40-50% more than the $999 MSRP, which has been consistently quoted for the past 9 months, is not going to encourage any international customers to drop their hard-earned cash on what is already beginning to look like a very shaky real-world product.

Ouch...

I really hope that rumour turns out not to be true, but I fear it may turn out to be

..in which case...

"Next!!"

Ya know.... it's funny (in a bad way)...

iBasso produce the amazingly-well-spec'd DX90 for $419 ACTUAL RETAIL. That's the hardware AND the profit margin for a mere $419.

Then, you have A&K dealers sitting on their arses and creaming a thousand bucks, or substantially more, of pure profit, for every AK240 they sell.

And now, we see the Calyx-M, which has potential, but which is looking perilously-close to being still-born (at least internationally-speaking), and there are already (as yet unconfirmed) rumours of it having a 40-50% / $400-500 premium slapped on top of it's $1000 asking price. 'Just like that'.

The world's gone mad...

calyx ceo seems to bank on the assumption that if you can be connected with strong distributor who want to shoulder advertisement rates(losts of free review products, internet ad, magazine ad etc) to share fat profit with calyx(possible reason behind the price hike, to draw premium audio products distributors), then you can get over some bad early impression from 'the rat in Head-Fi'(I just found out that the ceo used those words a couple of week ago in Calyx m naver cafe, probably refering to me).
And I think he is probably right in the strictly business point of view. The best case scenario is, through the ups and downs, calyx smoothes things out and we all forget all this complaints and I forget my 'ratting', and we'll just praise how good the calyx dap is. ^^
So, no, far from dead. It's just beginning for the better or worse.

The CEO used the term 'rat' for a Head-fi member?? wow.  Is anyone here willing to concede that that sounds pretty much like the 'disdainful attitude towards customers' I referred to previously?

But, ohotonge, I'm willing to help you shoulder some of the burden of that insult, if you like, since I'm sure D&A's CEO isn't my best buddy, either, after reading some of my posts about the volume slider and lack of digital-out on the M.

Thanks man, but I think from now on it's better for me to see how things developing and report when calyx doesnt keep the promises and doesnt provide honest informatiom because everyone will be sick and tired very fast if we two keep talking about the same point over and over again.
That's not what I wanted to do when I joined Head-fi a couple of years ago even though I was (and still is) not confident on my English.
So thanks again for your kind suggestion but no, let's just wait for a while, let's see what the future users will talk about merits and demerits of M.
And by the way, dont worry about the rat thing that's the one I will discuss with the ceo soon.
Lol that's laughable if they ever raise the asking price I can almost predict its path and it ain't going to be up but more in a downward spiral. Common for that price there are other options more attractive than it.

I hope the rat reference isn't true cause you never reject the hand that feeds you!
Seriously... "rat in headfi?"?!?!?!?!?!?!!!

Wow!! Congrats Mr CEO! Good luck and all the best.

I guess we can all leave the thread and wish "good luck" to Calyx and their well mannered CEO.

I don't think things can get any worse than that now.

I'm out of here. Doesn't sound like my king of DAP anyway.
