I general SQ terms what other portable sources is it on the same level with ?

You're asking too soon.

Eager to hear your thoughts, Currawong.

In the meantime, can you offer any observations on battery performance?  That seems to be the unit's biggest pitfall at the moment, and one that sounds like cannot be much improved by firmware.

Because of the battery indicator bugs, it is tricky to be sure that the battery is fully charged. I could get about 5hrs 30mins playing about 2-30% of hires/dsd files.

Which really isn't very much at all.

I've kinda dug my own grave a bit with battery performance, being the current owner of a Cowon X7.  So anything is going to seem poor after that.

But even so, less than 6 hours is what I would expect from a starting-to-fail mobile phone battery.

Key words there are hi-res/dsd. 16/44 content whether flac or mp3 would last longer.

Oh yeah, I appreciate that.  But I still think that's quite poor, given that the main features of the player are hi-res capability and large capacity.  If one were to be extremely critical, that's self defeating.

And the poster already stated that only ~30% of play was hi-res... I don't think battery will improve drastically with only 16/44 play!

Take you current DAP and compare battery life of CBR MP3 to FLAC.  Drastic battery difference.  FLAC to DSD... same jump.

I don't disagree that hi resolution will drain more battery, but the stated battery life was using standard resolution files for 70% of the time.

True and it wasn't that far off the Calyx listed 7h mark.

Well, stock is available here in Australia through Addicted to Audio... I just can't bring myself to purchase now though given the varying SQ reports, bugs, and reported short battery life. I really wanted this to be a no brainer purchase but with current information it just isn't.

Well it does seems calyx did us (and probably themselves) a favor by not offering international pre-order... Let's hope for the v1.0 firmware will fix everything and we have more impressions on actual SQ and battery life.

A quick question to Calyx M owners:

Does this player offer folder browsing function just like rock boxed IPod Classic?

I wish to be able to use 450GB of music with this player but I don't think it will be possible to tag 450GB of music files one by one.

Can you guys browse folders like windows explorer? I hope it can.

Was previously mentioned in the thread that you can't yet. Should be added in an upcoming update.
