Often using 2 DACs, even without balanced mode will perceptively improve things simply because the 2 channels aren't drawing current of the same tiny track in the chip. It's not always apparent in the steady state measurements as given. There's a bit more art to it than specs as using the DAC in stereo is already in the inaudible difference spec realm. The channel separation via it's output jack won't approach the given number under load and that's fine. It will be enough. There are other aspects of it's performance that will a lot more important. The numbers for most of

these better units are all excellent overall. It will come down to a listen.

Cheers, Thanks for giving your take.

Sorry if this totaly off topic, but to answer the wizard of oz: I tried today jRiver on a 10" touch screen, and I believe that 10" is the minimum size to use jRiver without keyboard/mice. So jRiver on a 7" touch screen will not be usable unless you have very very small fingers :-).  --> Is there a very good windows player designed for touch screen ?

i recently purchased a MS Surface Pro 2 with keyboard cover and installed jriver mc19 on it.

Screen is large enough to operate the software with fingers  (just) but also comes with a nifty wacom pen for the smaller buttons and task.

i find that just to play music, fingers is fine but for tagging and maintenance etc the pen is required

So far its proving to be a great set up.

great to hear this  :D   But do you agree that the Toughbook 7" tablet will be way to small ?

I believe that you could improve the SQ even further by following those Windows Recommended Audio Playback Software setup using JRiver V19 & JPLAY5.1

It should pick up as soon as it's available at the local retailers. I just got a DX90 coming in, so I am eager to compare the 2 side by side.

My X5 despatched today, DX90 ordered as well as I thought X5 not coming any time soon. I think Calyx will suffer because of the timescale taken to bring to market in regards to the others. Only needs one good User review though and it will change dramatically!

Especially seeing as how the X5 is limited to 5800 files and, it sounds like, there are no plans to change it.

I was gunning for the X5 all the way, but since that bombshell was confirmed, I'm now looking at the M as the next potential option (as well as spending at least another £300 I wasn't banking on).

Without me reading through the entire thread, are there any currently known annoying issues that really shouldn't be issues with the M?

The only one I've read about (elsewhere) is the possible problem with driving certain 'phones and cans - is that likely to be the case and, if so, what sort of 'phones and cans are we talking about?

Not sure that's quite true about the X5? Think it can play unlimited amount by Folder view. That is my personal usage, although others I know like meta data usage.

I don't think it's very clear - reading the thread, there are some that have echoed what you said, but there are also some who have confirmed that 5800 is the limit, regardless of how you view/store/whatever.
