goodvibes,

Calyx M specs:
THD+N: 0.0008%@1kHz at 32Ohm, 0.004%@1kHz at 16Ohm.
Channel Separation: 130dB@1kHz
Dynamic Range: 114dB

Calyx Femto specs:
THD+N: 0.0003%@1kHz
Channel Separation: 140dB@1kHz (Unbalanced Output)
Dynamic Range: 124dB, A-weighted (Unbalanced Output)

That said, keeping things all in one as opposed to transmitting, receiving and clocking a stream has definite advantages. It wouldn't need to be within 10% and still sound better all in one. Unfortunately it shouldn't be that close either. The differences in power supply and size of parts alone should put it at a significant disadvantage.

They even used Audio Precision to measure both units and posted the graphs online as proof! What else do you want?? If you still don't believe their word, well, just wait and listen to the M.

Not a fan of their management/marketing style..

It's just something as you got me wrong or I explained not enough...

Probably my bad... but it was nothing like that...

I was too lazy to explain what was goin on... and answered simply.

I didn't even take out other DAPs in the beginning...

I'm not posting whatever the sound was like ... I'm just trying to have some fun out of it and enjoy what I like.

Didn't know what's up... I should look first before I jump in.

Or... Is it what you expected?

Plus I don't want to get all the blame after I honestly say something that I feel.

Thought It was a user wannabe's board... Not a war place where people got angry and blame on...

This D&A (or A&D) company is a new comer of DAP market... I feel quite a bit of sympathy somehow .. I mean as a newbie.

By looking at the board for a while... It seems so obvious to me that some people are not on their criticism, but to blame...

Well... music is for fun..ain't it?

The timeline is such that the DX90 will be here way before the M has a chance to be internationally available, the timeline is as I mentioned earlier on the thread and by the sound of it, we'll get the press review and then Korean shipment followed by international shipments:

April 2014:

Press release with sample evaluation

Shipping Calyx M to Korea for pre-orders

May 2014:

Shipping Calyx M to the rest of the world

Announcement of the mysterious affordable M (portable Calyx M not sure about how they are going to name it or its specs, it will be announced in May)

September 2014 or October:

Availability of this smaller portable version

So that is pretty much all the info I got.

My point is those guys do not follow any vendors timeline.

Sorry I don't really understand what you mean. I do know that you mentioned Calyx didn't want you to compare with other DAPs and were not happy when you were talking about HM801.
If they do enjoy music they'd be more than happy to dicuss other competitors in the market. Just like Jerry Harvey and Suyama discussing with each other on their own products and the tech behind it.
Different DAPs doesn't necessary mean one is better than the other, most of the times I just find the flavour and signature is different, so it depends on the synergy and preference.
Hope to hear more comparisons when you get/hear other DAPs later on.

Music has to the one of life best perks, it's beautiful and fun and it's available to all without distinction. beerchug.gif

Maybe D&A just did not want the controversy other have been having lately (link)?

I think this thread is way too negative, people only bashing and criticizing all over instead of sharing useful information about the product.

Let's be positives and enjoy the music. :)

I think people had expectations for a new product and, when it was finished, some people got frustrated because it is not what they imagined it would be. But again, no product is perfect for everyone. Let's move on please.

Got your Idea...  I get all emotional because I don't really get much sleep after the audition.

It wasn't really a reply to you ...it seems:)

I need to rest ///

Ok, let's summarize this thread so hopefully we can all be on the same page and reduce the back and forth.

1) Calyx M is announced, causes mass excitement.

2) They design the DAP in a certain way for their target audience. Some people are not pleased, but do not take into account that the ZX1 and HM901 don't have the options, yet are still highly regarded players.

3) The design of the volume slider is released. More or less the same people are upset over it. It all seems to be in vain though, as the only person who has actually used the near final M has reported that it is very solid in operation.

4) A preorder price of $150 less that retail is announced, but a mob arises because they didn't give away any extra free money.

5) The preorder price is pulled, assumably because D&A felt insulted by the fact that people felt insulted by the pre-order price. I can't say I blame D&A.

All I'll say is that the outrage has been slightly unreasonable, in my humble opinion. The Calyx M seems to represent a great option that approaches Hugo territory for about the same price as current gen DAPs. Wouldn't that already make it a great value even at full MSRP? If the volume slider still bothers you after seeing it in action, but the SQ is worth it, then it's possible to add a small, high quality amp for further control.

I personally won't be buying a Calyx M, because I've grown disenchanted with the audiophile DAP market. But we can all still be reasonable about the circumstances.

There are some who seems to jump the gun in regards to the pre-order discount. If you followed from the start, most are disenchanted with their attitude and response in handling the matter instead of the price.

Can't say i blame them, they seem to have a lack of respect or regard for international customers.

I don't think they look at it as a lack of respect. I see it more as being upset about the mob situation when they made the offer. What they have tried to do IMO, badly handled that is, was to make a timing offer. They felt that because the initial time period for the deal was already gone, to be fair to the first batch of early adaptors from Korea, they announced a second timing offer to the rest of the world. Then you know the snowball effect from the Facebook page. So they took the reaction rather badly and decided to stop making deals.

To be honest at the moment on Headfi I fallow only the Calyx and Tera player threads and nothing else
