$999 Calyx M with DXD + DSD, 64GB + SD + µSD storage - Page 99

Well......... What an epic failure,  So disappointing.

The Calyx has gone from looking super promising to "MEH". This stupid slider coupled with an under powered processor

just about rules it out for me. I still hope it sounds great but given the recent trends i am losing confidence in that as well.

The official replies M sounds better than ak240 under the same post. Hope it is! can't wait any longer!

What are 'the official replies' and 'same post'?

on FB. the newest post that introduces how magnetic slider works.

They thought it's a cool gimmick. What if you accidentally lost that slider and the volume is stuck on high volume? What a shame if many potential customer decided against the M because of the slider.

I suppose you can still control the volume by touch screen.

It's V control is a bit odd. It's kinda cool but I hope they supply an extra magnet or 2 in the box. Would also be helpful if there was another indented spot on the player to store it so it's easily accessable but volume is fixed. It sounds like you can enable a secondary V control on the touch screen but that may just be google translate, LOL. I guess we wont know how big an issue until we try one. It would be nice if you could fix a max volume in the SW. Perhaps something they should have to protect themselves and their customers.

To me, the Calyx looks nicer and better sorted than I'd expect from a 1st attempt. I'm not that concerned that it's OS may not be the absolute fastest responding if it's intuitive enough.

More so than the slider's safety or misplacing it, I'm more concerned about the seeming lack of ability to fine-tune minute steps of the volume. The volume bar doesn't seems too long to allow precise adjustments....

Let's hope that's not the case!

From what I see, yes, there is also a touch volume control. I am not quite worried about the slider as long as they implement a volume cap setting.

Lol Calyx is really raising expectation with their reply "We don't think M is on par with AK240... but better..." ??

As long as it's really good but what do you expect them to say? I'd hope they'd have that attitude.

I just hope they'll be truthful. If it's not up to par they can admit it while if it really is better than all the more happier we all will be.

Being honest in these situations is a refreshing change and it'll increase trust and loyalty to their products ;)

They are definitely pre-production. That is an old unit, before the new buttons are added.

I think that it looks great. Obviously that won't move in a pocket. As for anyone who is concerned that they cannot carelessly and clumsily slide it rough and hard into skin-tight disco pants, quite frankly I am fan of the Darwin Awards.  ;-)

The volume control can be operated through the UI, a silly thing to be able to rip off the slider, one more thing we can potentially loose. One thing I did not get from the video; I am not sure about if the slider requires pressure in order to move the volume control. That is important because if it does, it would allow not to accidentally be able to slide the volume to high levels.

Good lord!

What were they thinking?
