$999 Calyx M with DXD + DSD, 64GB + SD + µSD storage - Page 96

I am still one to believe some of us need to chill and get this thing in their hands before bashing a few questionable design decisions. For one, the physical buttons, as flush as there may be, I would think anyone with a working  brain can manage memorizing the layout and actually be able to find the right target when the DAP is in your pocket. Considering we are all here making a rather informed decision to spend a crap ton of money on these high end players, I would like to think we all have working cell in the noggin, albeit a few loose screws (some looser than others  )

Didn't they already post that the M went gold.... Give up the crusade unlit M2/next DAP we all want to bend to our delight via members of the trade slyly among us/supposedly :veryevil:

I for one am worried that the Calyx m is going to have trouble getting marketshare due to its international release timing. X5 dx90 both seem to beating it to market and dx100 impending. I am hoping the best for the calyx m but as we keep approaching release competitors are up-ing the ante and improving daps at a fraction of cost. Just my 2 cents. Flame on.

no worries chap, unless you are a Calyx manager or shareholder, and believe me there will be buyers me included ... smily_headphones1.giftongue.gif

Only concerns for Calyx-M are lack of D-O and silly ergonomic design decisions.

Other than that, the DAP will sell OK in spite of X5 / DX90

I am confident X5 will sell well, too - DX90 may sound great but iBasso are shooting themselves in the foot with only one card slot (no onboard memory to go with that single slot). That decision will hurt DX90 sales badly, even though it will still earn buyers for it's dual ES9018k2m and probable competitive SQ.

I think there's a market for all 3 of these DAPs, with the only threats to sales arising out of their own design decisions rather than from competitors.

Mython, look, the only thing i am worried is about liking things i buy, while i let Calyx shareholders worry about market share and the rest biggrin.gif

I think you should be aiming that at Shenook rather than me

I think you are right on all accounts. If all 3 make decent profit we can be assured new versions will be planned and released. I would hate for any of these players to exit the dap market. I respect all 3 and hope their offerings continue.

It's so nice to see 2013/2014 bringing us audiophiles some proper DAPs.

How times have changed!

Yup, from troublemaker DX100 to problem-less ZX1.

Now things even get better. More capacity, better sound, better designs devices.

Every dap has their a few disadvantages or similar cons but I believe one day, someone will take a step back before designing anything and read/analyze what has been happening in dap world, what are the issues, what people demand etc etc. Then he will bring the real ultimate dap (not AK240 ultimate) with no problematic decisions as well as honest price, then he will become rich, very rich :happy_face1:

Until then, yup, we can still smile cuz things are definitely going better and becoming more exciting.

As for the M, I hope they find a good way to implement the volume slider without making it dangerous for our ears and gears. Then M shall be the closest dap to the ultimate device. (Addition: Special for Mython, I also would like to add digital out apart from the corrected volume slider design :happy_face1:, but it is clear that Calyx wants M to be the all in one device.)

Calyx better release the M as soon as they can. We don't know for sure if Ibasso makes a surprise about the storage on DX90. As for me, if Ibasso puts a full SD card or even a dual micro SD slot on DX90 it will be enough for me to sway into the DX90, now that a 128GB micro SD is available.

Of course, unless the M completely beats DX90 SQ-wise.

Is the Calyx M going to be charged via a dedicated charger, with it's own proprietary power supply or charged via USB?  It looks like micro USB connection on the bottom if it hasn't changed.

Are there going to be color options?

I really liked the original 2 tone look with Dark Silver sides and Black front and back.  When it's all black it just looks like a non-discript black slab.

I think that's just the contrast/light of that shot.

My understanding is that it is intended to be a metallic brown colour, with black accents.
