hey, agree, so all what we need now is to let Calyx know that we love them and that we will love them even more when they surprise us with a great promotion offer biggrin.gif

Actually, I am now to reserve 1 Calyx M player with promotion to get it in April. (exceptionally available in Korea, they might open another promotion later to foreign customer) It is strange that calyx gained more fame to foreign country than its home country. So I got most of the information about the Calyx M here and other websites. Anyway, I might have some chance to listen the beta version of Calyx M next Saturday held by Calyx ( Digital and Analog Inc.) I am expecting to listen how it perform in my either Sennheiser HD700 or JVC DX2000 to get enough amping. Additionally, if possible, I will also test the Signature DJ from Ultrasone and Sennheiser IE800 as portable ones. Excited to feel how they sounded~ As all of you has been reported, Calyx added one more of SD card slot instead of deleting Wi-Fi function. Pros and cons can be happened by doing this. But I prefer the corrected one for the future music playing.

If you have the opertunity to here one. Bring A amp as well. Try with the best headphones you have. That will be the true EQ sound as the internal amp as good as it is , will not be as good as a seperate amp. Also bring the best ref quality flac you have and the same with dsd. If you convert the dsd to flac that will reveil the true sound quality from the player.

I wish this was in my price range - a killer dap for iems that is the size of a phone is exactly what I want. I'm warming up to the X5's sound, but it's quite big.

That's a prototype Calyx-M.

Final production is slightly smaller, but basically similar size.

134.6 x 69.16 x 12.5

approx 160g

So, quite big, but at least it's slim, so it will still fit OK into a jeans pocket.

   Calyx-M 134.6 69.16 12.5 160g
   Fiio X5 114 67.6 15.6 195g
   iBasso DX100 118 71.8 27.5 265g
   HiFiMan HM-802 / HM-901 117 72 29 250g
   iBasso DX50 / DX90 100 64 16.9 150g

Frankly, I find the size of the hand in that Fiio photograph to be highly suspect...

metric:

134.60 mm x 69.16 mm x 12.50 mm (H/W/D)

US:

5.3 inch x 2.7 inch x .49 inch (H/W/D) <-- almost 1/2 inch thick

No, it's almost twice as thick and slightly longer and wider than an iPhone.

Fiio state the X5 as:

114 x 67.6 x 15.6

Yeah might be the sasquatch' s hand after a shave of course. :D

Yeah, after all - the Chinese are famous for their great height and their enormous hands, aren't they?

I respect Fiio as a company but 'massaging' their photos with real enormous hands or 'creative techniques' doesn't earn them any respect.

As for the M - it'd be nice if it was smaller but it's moderate thickness rescues it from being a major bulk problem, like the DX100 / HM-901. It's also around a 100g lighter.

Liveable, then, and worth it for the luxury functionality&performance it will (hopefully) have.

I think the side is fine as long as it's thin. I have a samsung galaxy note 3 and it's not comber some. And the Mis smaller. So fine by me. And that is one gig GUI. to boot. So albums with good graphics will look cool to.
Thanks all

Presently I stream my network music to my iPad Air utilizing iPeng's great app, and play through a vintage Proton 300 radio/amplifier/speakers bedroom setup. Not DX50 quality, but quite nice. I was sad to see that Calyx had neither bluetooth or wi-fi.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply.  Yes I agree with you.  I guess I have to use the Calyx as my main portable, X5 as a backup or on those events I'm more worried about DAP damage.  Then I guess I have to use my phone to review new music on Spotify before I buy a CD or HDtrack.

One day we will have everything as everything gets microtized (yes not really a word) and batteries that last 100 hours which fit on the end of a pin.  It will keep improving which is good.  I'm exited for both the X5 and Calyx M for different reasons.  I'm bewitched in between.  I can buy an SVS sub and the X5 or the Calyx M now.  So Sub and X5 now and Calyx M in october? or Calyx M in April and wait on the other two.  Dang.  Choices choices.

I hate you guys.  Making me change my mind of being 100% sure about the x5 and now I need to get the Calyx M now.......You make me indecisive!!!

But thank you this is sooo fun to me.

Don't push your luck, they may think hey if we love them then paying the full price should be Ok, if on the other hand we say I hate you unless you give me this promotional offer, they may say let's avoid confrontation and give them what they want, they will love us for that. lol
