It's definitively cool and might be more durable.

What I like about it;

  • OLED display
  • Decent modern UI
  • Transportable
  • Amazing DAC and pretty sure a more than decent amp stage
  • Space to spare
  • File format galore
  • Decent battery
  • Automatic Gapless (sounds silly but hey why worry?)
  • Keyword search (my mouth is drooling)
  • USB-DAC Yes!!!! - asynch and full res too, double yes!!!

In anyway you measure it, it just looks good.

Now I am hoping Calyx will convert the "wait a bit for the shipping and warranty issues to be solved" to here is the early adopter's special! :beerchug:

+1000 :beerchug:

my objectives in order of preference:

a) true high-end SQ without compromises (DSD)

b) top notch GUI, not necessarily iPod :p

c) high-resolution screen

d) good battery life (10h +)

e) great amp section and no need for amping (sorry my DX50  )

f) portability factor and tactile HW buttons

g) reasonable price not insulting my intelligence (sorry AK240 you screwed by brain :( )

i) decent SQ (DSD not an issue for me)

ii) storage (needs to be able to handle 256GB min inc on board and card currently available)

iii) drives my headphones without amping

iv) battery life (over 10 hours)

v) tolerable UI

desirable

vi) line out

vii) long battery life (20 hours plus) or swappable battery

viii) decent UI

I think it's close...

sorry, this is M thread... besides I never liked Sony products, all much overhyped compared to what they can do. the only good Sony product i could remember was their famous long ago DSC -707 and 717 zoom cameras... that's all  anything else i had from Sony went into trash bin quite fast.

that's one area where the M now really scores, the full size SD is a masterstroke, I'd love to see that in a DX120.

If you people really thought about what is important and you could not have it all. There would much lists being discussed here.

Amp s. All will sound better if amped. And given it's one battery to perform all functions how can it be everything and fit in your pocket.
As long as it can play well iems,s and some cans that's fine. Line out who cares. As long as the amp is great sounding the line is great.
Storage now here you got me. Good storage although not paramount havering what the M has is great.
GUI is a must for some and this has that.
Format it plays all great value it should , but for me it's not that important given it will be able to play them all . It will not be able to convey the true sound improvement with iem,s anyway. I know most here think the iems, are top of the heep. Well they are not so although it may sound better a little it's not worth the battery time for me. So I convert to flac no compression.
Wifi nice if it worked really well. So not having is a miss but having it and not working is just a waiste .
I think the M is the best one box solution there is so far. I have every thread including the Hugo. Now for me to get this and get all the goodness I need a transport and an amp
Of all,out three devices. That is truly a step back. Does this do gapless ?

YOU PEOPLE ...... COOL expression :p

speaking seriously you know each of us has his own preferences and we will never be able to find a silver lining here.

for me personally M ticked 99% of boxes at least on paper, so Calyx can expect my cash to hit their account instantly. i hope promotional offer will come our way too :D

Hah! A blast from the past. I still have the 707 collecting dust somewhere. The 717 however was an absolute classic! A Chinese friend of mine here has it - which I could not believe. It still takes great pictures.

Back to your scheduled thread.  :-)

It's going to be virtually impossible to say no at the potential promotional offer. I just hope they'll be able to cope with the demand, and this is even before they go full swing at release day.

At the moment, the only thing we can do it is

I have been very interested in streaming from my NAS, as well. For me, streaming plus SD cards would be the best of all worlds. On the go the SD card, and at home my entire music library available from my networked NAS. Ibasso DX100 has this network capability, I believe, but it so much more expansive than the DX50, which I own.

Presently I stream my network music to my iPad Air utilizing iPeng's great app, and play through a vintage Proton 300 radio/amplifier/speakers bedroom setup. Not DX50 quality, but quite nice. I was sad to see that Calyx had neither bluetooth or wi-fi.

Just to emphasise the point - I've added the excellent HD Tracks Black Sabbath Studio Albums set to my collection, I need another 7GB of DAP space just for that...
