Which other brands should I consider besides Beyerdynamic?

Hi Head-fi

I have recently bought a Sennheiser PC360 "second hand", without hearing the model first.

Which turned out to be a bad idea indeed, I am so disappointed by them. The sound was just so weak and it sounded like some frequencies were missing (I tried them on my phone, on my PC's build in soundcard and on my stereo amplifier.

But the sound was still bad).

So I will just have to sell them and get something different (This time I'll audition before buying!), and go for headphones without a microphone.

In my search I've come across Beyerdynamic which seems to be well regarded, also on this site.

So I've planned to listen to a pretty wide range of their models: DT660, DT860, DT880, DT990, T70 and T90.

Since I don't know if I'll like open or closed best, I'll try both types.

So, on to the questions.

Since I don't know that much about headphone brands, I'm wondering what other brands I should consider trying aswell?

Maybe there are other Sennheiser models which sound better than the PC360?

And I should propably mention, I will be using the headphones for gaming and some music (When I don't feel like bothering other people with my speakers). I only listen to electronic music, mostly in the more hardhitting forms: Hardtrance, Hardstyle, Drum & Bass, Dubstep and the likes.

I will only be using them at home, and am planning on getting a headphone DAC/amp, so high ohm levels won't be a problem.

Thank you for your time.

Over all budget(s) for headphones and the DAC and the amp?

For the headphones I'll be most comfortable around 300€. But if the sound is right, I would be willing to go the extra mile of up to 500€.

As for the DAC/amp. It will be a little later down the line I would get one, since I should be able to get by with my stereo amplifier until I've saved some more money for a head-amp/dac.
