Home system to headphone system

Thread Starter

I am excited I found this forum.

I am moving from a home to a townhouse.  My new neighbors would not like my current stereo.

Vandersteen 5's

Ayre electronics (amp, pre amp, and cd player)

I am thinking to keep the cd player.

It is truly something that is hard to give up, but I do have a buyer.

My thought was replace this with a top end  headphone (planar?), and headphone amp.

I would like something comparable  to my stereo system, so I guess I would be in the 2000-2500 range money wise.

I have read the reviews, BUT where to you go to listen?

I live on Long Island, and would have went to the Babylon meeting.  Is there another meeting scheduled in the New York area?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

I have not heard your system components.  However you can get into true audiophile territory with the HE 500, which is $699 every day (and less if you can find it on sale--there is a thread here for that).  If you want to spend almost 2 x more, the HD 800 is excellent.  In any case you should do some reading about the headphone options here:

At this level, quality amps with enough power may start with Schiit Asgard 2 ($249) or maybe even the O2 ($129).  Of course there are many good options (solid state, tube and hybrid) up the price ladder from there.  Some examples  are the EF-2, the Burson line, Little Dot tube amps and several offerings from Audio-gd--just to highlight a few.
