Need over ear headphones that are comfortable all day every day $200 budget - Page 2

You can find akg k550 and mad dogs used for around that price and they're both super comfy.  If you can fudge the numbers, can get new of both for $300 (270 for the akg, I think ).

Unfortunately, $200 is a hard limit but I'll keep those in mind. The k550 is on sale for about $200 on Amazon, hopefully they don't sell out before I make my decision.

I couldn't find anywhere to try these on, so I'd like some help narrowing down my selection a bit, I have no qualms with returning them if I don't like them but, obviously, I would prefer to minimize that. I have also come across some more money so budget constraint is less of an issue now.

Which of these do you think fit my needs best?

AKG K550

AKG K612

ATH-A900X

ATH-M50

DT770/880/990

Sony MDR-1R

The most comfortable for me are the closed DT 770.

The best quality sound are provided by the semi-open DT 800 in at least the 250 Ohm flavor (however your unamped equipment may not be able to properly drive them).  The very similar but somewhat better 600 Ohm flavor is well described here:

I will be able to buy an amp now so that's no problem.

How much would you be willing to spend on an amp?

I just plan to get a cheap amp if it's needed since I will be able to buy a better one in a few months. It appears that the DT's are the only headphones in my list that really need an amp so I'll leave those for last if none of the others work out.

I'd just get the MDR-1 and then proceed to block this site.

I first came on here as a little middle schooler looking for a <$100 portable amp for the K702...two years later and I now have an Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, Senn HD800, Hifi M8, and iBasso DX50. Block this site. It will bring you nothing but excessive amounts of spending on meaningless audio gear. Save yourself, before it is too late!

You can't stop now; you still got more to do. Your HT setup listed in your sig has a mismatched center. More to buy wink.gif

I never said I was done with HT :)

I'm hoping I can convince my father to buy me a pair of Monitor Audio Gold GX300s and a GX350 for Christmas.

Also, thanks for the reminder to update my sig.

Ahhhh...you have the VTF-15H. Nice sub smily_headphones1.gif

It is quite lovely. The only thing better than one VTF-15H...is multiple VTF-15Hs.

LOL

Bragging mode, huh? I considered the VTF-15H, and I ended up buying dual 18" sealed subs instead wink.gif

Two CHT 18s? That's...that's....a....a....a lot of bass.
