Need over ear headphones that are comfortable all day every day $200 budget

I'm in need of a pair of headphones that I can wear comfortably all the time, obviously all day every day is impossible so I'll take the next best thing.

I currently use JVC HA-RX700 with the leather pads that are on the RX900. These headphones have been causing blisters in and behind my ear lobes, which I assume is partly due to the headphones and partly due to me wearing them far too much. I'm not asking for a miracle, I just need comfortable headphones and if I have to change my listening habits then I will.

They will be used for everyday purposes, primarily music and videos. I listen to all kinds of music, but usually it's various electronic types and rock/alt/punk. I would prefer closed headphones but semi-open might be acceptable depending on how much sound leaks. My budget is $200, if I need an amp it will have to fit in that budget. Comfort is the priority, sound quality is not very important since I don't have any high quality sources and if I'm spending over $100 then I'm assuming they will be better than my current headphones.

Thanks in advance!

Once again I’ll mention that headphone comfort is a very individual thing.  Sizing and sensitivities are unique to each person.  We can point you to headphones that are generally considered to be comfortable and mention others that have garnered complaints for being uncomfortable.  However, the only way to know for sure is to wear them yourself for a time equivalent to your longest listening session.

For isolation and comfort, I say go with the Amperior or Fidelio M1. Both have sound sigs great for electronic/alt.

The Amperior is not comfortable for everyone.  A number of us find its cups to be too small for comfort.

Once again--you can't rely on what others find to be comfortable (or uncomfortable).  There is no substitute for trying it for yourself.

This. One headphone for which universal comfort is, essentially, guaranteed is the Sony MDR-1. If you don't mind picking up a used headphone on the For Sale forum, then you ought to be able to score one for $200 or less.

Of course. I just figured it would be best to get suggestions first instead of picking random headphones to try. I have read a couple other comfort threads but it's difficult to sort through which headphones fit my requirements.

Personally, I don't think ANY headphone is comfortable to wear all day every day. If the clamping force is too high, you'll get a headache, if it's too low the 'phones will slide around every time you move your head. The soft, most comfortable pads will make your ears sweat. The top of the 'phone will rub on the top of your head. It's like looking for the Golden Fleece or the Holy Grail - full of promises and disappointments!

Good luck!

I think it would be great for you to sell him your HD800s for $200 (did you read the title?). If the OP doesn't want them, I'll take them. (Iol)

I saw an HD800 for sale on Amazon for $200 the other day. Did you read the morbid HD800 story?

Any other suggestions? I'm thinking on ear headphones will probably not be comfortable all day, plus I'd like to have a decent sound stage.

Based on what's on this thread so far, you need to visit a local store (Best Buy is one common example--but not the only one) that carries a variety of cans that you can try on--and listen to.  Take the tour and gain personal experience with a variety of options.

As a rule semi-open cans will give you larger sound stages than (equivalent in price and class) closed headphones.

Yeah you're right, I should just go and try a bunch of them on. I'll see what stores are in my area.
