November Melbourne Head-Fi Meet - Page 4

So, I've ordered the AKG K240 MKII and the custom cable, so Loquah, you can put them down as a 100% attending.

I'm pretty sure they'll both arrive before the meet. Hopefully the cable coming from China gets here in time.

I thought that the AKGs had a one sided cable?

Yes, one sided, but that won't stop me from going custom:)

:-)

It's great and I am a big believer in cables, but I have never really understood replacing one sided cables unless you recable the insides as well. So the concept is what? One side will sound better than the other?

I get it if it is for looks or ergonomics, but don't think that it will improve SQ.

Hey guys, do yourselves a favour at the meet and listen to the SoundMAGIC HP200 headphones. I've just finished reviewing them and they are a serious giant killer! I'm talking HD6X0, DT880, etc. giant killer. Seriously impressive. I'll post a review here on Head-Fi soon, but am out of time right now.

Oh yeah, I knew that already, haha. I was aware of these things before I decided to go upgrade-cable on the cans.

Improvement in SQ isn't always noticeable, nor is it something that will stand out, so it's not too much to my concern. After all, copper, silver or even gold are just conductors of electricity, in which they provide a path for the flow of electrons, nothing more.

There's a lot more to it than that, but I agree in the fact that the changes are subtle and, as lin said, no point going for SQ improvements on a single-sided cable unless you re-wire the internals.

All that said, sometimes it's just nice to have a better looking / feeling cable.

Yes, you are correct:)

I do feel that sometimes the looks of the audio gear actually influences the way in which one may perceive of the unit:) But I'm sure not everyone agrees to that - Each to their own!

I might recable the interior sometime soon if I manage to develop the skills to.

Confirmed timing of 1pm to 4pm on Saturday 23rd. Updating front page now...

Sounds great!

Also, I can bring an iPod Nano 3rd Gen, E6 and SPC LOD. The cable is actually a Beat Audio Titan. The supernova and onkyo are gone.

Cool. I'll update front page over the weekend because I'm also hoping to have the Shozy Magic portable amp by then too.

Ah, the PX-Magic is finally out to play! I've been waiting to try that little amp for ages, but it never left its home.

Is that the PX-M1?

No, it's a brand new one with a slightly warmer sound signature and meant to be their flagship amp in terms of overall SQ. The D1 is also coming with DAC and amp features combined into a larger portable unit. The Magic is tiny. Apparently it still includes a DAC, but a mediocre one only (compared to D1) and is more focussed on being an amp. All of this is based on Charles' thoughts and comments so I'm looking forward to seeing what it's really like and if my tastes match his. :)
