Help! Im sooo lost :D

Good morning!!

First and foremost congrats on the great forum. I have found a lot of useful information and I hate to ask the same question over again. But my doubts seem to be quite specific and varied, and so I thought I post a threat and beg for help.

I currently own a set of Bose QC15 that I use mostly to walk around and travel connected to my tab ( HP slate 7), using the noozxoid pro app and poweramp. Most of my music is FLac or MP3 @ 320. I listen mostly to classic rock and some old school punk ( Ramones, Pistols, Clash). I also like to listen to Classical music when Im on the library studying and for these purposes ( not hearing people yapping on the library) my qc15s are awesome.

Now ive started to hear more music and want to start getting into better quality stuff. I have purchased a Fiio E10 that should be getting in today or tomorrow. I have a very good friend that can get his hands on any of the B&W headphones line at a VERY nice price. These would be used mostly at home at night while studying so sound leaking or noise cancelling isnt really a concern.

Given that they would be mostly connected to the Fiio, that I dont really want to take them out of the house and that they need to be B&W, which ones would you guys recommend? I like my music clear and Im not really a bass head. I like musical instruments and im not very fond of super heavy bass tracks, electronic music, hip hop or nothing like that. I just one to be able to enjoy the different instruments clearly, almost like if it was live music.

Im sorry, my english is not that good and its hard for me to explain what I want.

Also, a friend of mine wants to sell his denon Dh h400 that are only a few weeks old and those would be cheap as well. He dont like the flashiness of it ( and neither do i, but since this is only for home use, I dont really care for looks, just want good sound)

Thank you so much for your help!!!

Have a great day everyone!

Thank you for your reply.

I dont really have a set buget. I have the chance to get the following:

B&W P3 ( Brand new) for 140 Euros

B&W P5 ( Brand New) for 240 Euros

B&W P7 (Brand new) for 320 Euros

The Denon have been used for a few weeks and he´ll give them to me for 200 Euros.

I have to choose one of these 4.

I was thinking to stay with the p3 or p5, but if you guys seriously think the P7 are that much better ( and worh the difference for my prurposes) I will make an effort and spend the next month or so eaten ramen noodles and frozen chicken :D

Thanks again for taking the time to read my post and offer ur help.

Best regards!

Nobody?

Sorry for the bump and the impatience. But I need to decide today since my friend is leaving town tonight and need to decide or the nice prices will be gone... :(

Really appreciate any advice you guys can give me :)

Best regards!

Thanks trunk!

I have been doing some research. I read that the best possible headphones I can get for my taste are some grado's that cost about a 1000 bucks + a nice amp to go alone with it. I think that I will save super HARD and maybe buy it buy early spring next year. I believe that if you want something badly, you buy the best and make it last.

Having decided that.

Now he dropped the prices for the B&W even more.

P3 110

P5 210

Knowing that I would save for the grados and amp, that I would be plugging one of those two to the fiio e10 and that I listen to the rolling stones mostly, which one of those two (p3 + p5) would you choose? ( edited to add, as a temporal thing, after I get the grados Id use the b&w to commute and walk about)

Thanks a lot for your help man

Ill owe you a beer :)

Indeed, those or the Sound Magic HP 100, Shure 840, AKG K550 or Audio Technica AD900x and A900x or Beyer DT990 Pro 250ohm  if they are avalibe to you in your country. All of those I enjoyed with Rock and Classical, although the Open AD900x and DT990 sound the best, they are not good for... public use [as they leak sound in and out]

but the Shure 840, HP100 A900x and K550 are all wonderful closed back headphones! The Sound Magic HP 100 where my favorite of the bunch

Thanks for the advice!

I think Ill just save for the Grados and the amp for when I can afford them. I will choose one of the two B&W (3's or 5's).

I am from Spain but live in Slovakia at the moment. Anything other than Koss, Denon, Bose,, B&W, Sony and Phillips would have to be ordered from Germany.

I will be traveling to NYC in March for a friends wedding and I think I can save about 2000 USD to spend on music gear till then.

I have one more question.

My dad has this amazing old school Sony amp ( from the 70's), dont know the model and a HUGE ( im talking well into the 100's) vynil collection that would give me the day I graduate (hopefully May). Would the grados work with such an old school amp ( I must say, we have a Bose set up at home and the Sony sounds sooo much better, at least on my opinion)

Thanks!

Beer for you too!!!

WOW Vintage Recivers are often know to sound good [some of them] get us the Model number, and the Grado's might. It depends on their sensitivity. STILL if your dad plans to give you that reciver DO SOME REASERCH on it my friend! And that reaserach now xD might save you a ton o money!

Thanks!!!

Ill be going home to Spain in a few weeks. Ill definately check the model and post it here. I cant wait to listen to his classic rock collection from the vynils on my grados. I have something to motivate me with this stupid exam i have coming now...:)

As for my original question...

Rock and Roll ( or classical) + Fiio e10 + p3 /p5?? (Keep it mind that after I get the grados these b&w would be my walking around headphones so should play well with my android tablet/phone)

If it helps, most of my music is Flac ( some mp3 here and there, mostly 320)

Thanks!

Honestly, if you can get Koss. Go with the KosS Pro DJ 200 or the DJ 100 TBSE [I'd hit up the TBSE as it has some special stuff to go with it]

every thread I read states that the P5 is over priced and underwhelmed. Which means, it's most likely on par with the Dj 200 but cost twice as much.

I do reommend the DJ 200 to you, I've not listened to the DJ 100 TBSE my self [some tell my it is a rebranded Dj 200] and I HATED the dj 100

SO that said, get the Koss DJ 200 if you can find it. It's about $120 USD [less than half the cost of the P5] OR you could buy used from a Head Fi member... but if you have to stay with new and Koss is avaliabe to you, the DJ 200 is a nice closed beat around can imo :D

Sony also has some nice beat around portables that sound nice. You'll have to wait for a Sony fan to share which he likes.

That said do NOT GET the B&W 5 or 3. I have not heard them BUT, when Head Fi members agree that it is over priced... I am confident in that opinion. so DO NOT get them B&W P5, reaserach a headphone from Koss or Sony, as you might be able to get something on par with your grados or better for the price of the P5

Thanks man :)

I went to the store today, They didnt have any of the models you mentioned. I tried the Koss PRO4AAAT, the ProDJ100 and the Denon's DN-HP1000 ( all they had on stock, they specialize on Speakers and Amps mostly). Nothing of what they had from sony was worth it according to the guy.

I also sampled the B&W P7. MY GOD THEY SOUND EFFING AWESOME!! ( for my inexpert ears at least). Knowing they retail for 400 euros and I could get them for 320 (30%) I think i might buy those.

The problem is I didnt have my phone when I went to the store and could only listen to what they had on there and connected to an amplifier (Some Adelle and Some Eminem or something. Im not sure)

Do you think this will work nicely with the FIIO E10? Do you think the stones will rock them? And do you think that if I ever decide to take them out with me will my Hp slate 7 ( that with all the neg reviews it has on many aspects, beats the poo out of my SGIII on sound quality) manage to power them?

Sorry for the million questions and the B&W obsession, but I read wonderful things about the P7 and listening to them today i was SO happy I think I might just buy them :)

Actually do me ONE favor. BEfore you buy them listen to them with your phone :3

THey may sound awesome, and if you like them that's fine! Again just make sure... MAKE SURE you hear them from your PHONE! Do NOT buy them without testing them out of your own gear!

Now that said, if you LOVE them out of your cell phone enjoy them :D

MIshenay.

Thank you so much for all your advice and help. I really appreciate it.

I have been thinking hard and reading a lot of reviews here and in some other forums, and the one thing that everyone seems to agree on is. Grados are awesome. I think I will just save my money for now and use my qc15 ( which I know most people here seem to hate, but I found good enough for now), check the old amp we spoke about and then decide on what to buy and buy something awesome that I love ( I dont know about the quality, but the grados gs1000i's are by far the sexiest looking piece of tech I have seen in a long time)

Truth is this year I have picked up two of the most expensive hobbies ever, good music and skydiving, and my bank account has taken a serious hit. For the 300 bucks I had budgeted now I can buy myself a nice new sony as30 action cam to jump with and Ill start saving like crazy so when I buy a set of cans I buy something epic without having to worry too much about pricetag and that I know will last for a long time.

That being said, Im using the noozxoide dsp with my hp slate seven and today I gave poweramp a shot following advice that I read here. I think it makes my Qc15 sound decent. Can you give me some advice in software/ dsp/ settings for poweramp ( or other player you think I should try) that would help me improve the sound quality of the Boses??

Again, thanks a lot for the help and if you are ever in Spain, beer ( or your poison of choice) is on me.

Best regards man!
