MrSpeakers Alpha Dog Review (and comparison with HD600 and K701) - Page 7

From this comparison review I would conclude HD600 and Alpha Dog produce very similar SQ. I can somehow confirm that, since I have heard HD600 and I own AD, and what you say more or less resembles what I think. I am very interested to know how would HD800, LCD2 or HE6 compare to AD. I know they are open, and I know they are higher level, but what I don't know is how much different they are, and which of these three would be best upgrade from Alpha Dog in terms of SQ. For example how treble on LCD2 compare to AD ones, and how bass on HE6 compares to AD, and how soundstage of HD800 compares to AD. The comparison AD vs HD600 you've done was very interesting, but I'm also curious what would it look like if you compared against higher price point headphones.

I am thinking of selling my HD598 and decide to buy which headphone? The Alpha Dog or the Sony MA900.
to me the Alpha was more like the beyerT90 in tonality than the ma900

Maybe it's just me, but the Beyer T90 has a metallic-sound to it, and its measurable 7-8 kHz treble spike was very apparent to my ears. I didn't like it at all. The Alpha Dog sounds more natural to me, but with a treble peak around 9-10 kHz where cymbal's "tss" sounds are to give it some sparkle.

Oh, I didn't post it here. I wrote my impressions for the touring Alpha Dog in the main thread:

What headphone would you like me to compare with?

I can't help but giggle at that statement...Wow!

I have revised my opinion and stand corrected:

Is this a serious question?

+1.  I just finished your review.  Very well done.  Yeah, watch out for those loaded statements.

If yes, then here is my response.

1. I don't find that the hd600 and AD have a similar SQ...not close IMO.

2. The treble on the AD is actually really good and would compete well against the lcd2.2 possibly even edges it out for extension. The lcd2.2 produces a slightly darker smoother treble though which some may find desirable/advantageous.

3. The sound stage of the hd800 is one of the best if not the best out there. There simply is no comparison to any closed hp.

4. The he6, on a very good amp, operates on a different plane than the AD. With a truly clean and powerful amp the he6 is exquisite. It takes a helluva amp though to get the best from it.

IMO...

More or less this was what I was asking, but would appreciate more detail if possible. For example do you think that AD treble are more precise than lcd2.2?

The treble will depends somewhat on your preference. While I find both trebles excellent, I prefer the lcd2 because I like a darker signature. Even though the AD treble I would say is more accurate I'd still prefer the lcd.

How does the Alpha Dog compare to the D5000 and/or D7000?

[If this was answered earlier in the tread, please tell me where.  I quickly read the entire thread and didn't see this information.]

Short answer is that the AD is very flat and true to the recording. The denon series has a v shape and will have sparkle/brighter treble and heavier/colored bass.

So they are most similar to the HE 500...?
