LG Quadbeat 2 Impressions Thread - Page 16

Damn! These MH1 tips can really make the QB2 sing!

First and foremost, my apologies to everyone. Apparently my gripes in regard to body/fullness being lacking in the QB2 bass and mids were caused by the wrong choice of tips. I've been using the H200 translucent grey tips with shallow insertion. What the H200 tips did was highlight the upper mids affecting the overall sound signature of the QB2. At the moment with the MH1 tips (deep insertion), bass and lower mids seem to sound full and clear. The upper mids is where I'm still trying to figure out; I know for sure there is something in this area that is affecting timbre and resolution; fortunately it's not that bad unless one is really nit picking! QB2 now has 60+ hours of burn-in.

The MH1 Livesound now sounds too dark/warm in comparison the QB2. The overly warm bass end tend to mask the detail that is in the mids. The detail is there and becomes more clear and lush when the bass end is EQed down to match linearity in the mids. Unfortunately, I won't be applying any EQ when I do the final review. The MH1 currently on burn-in to loosen up the drivers just a little bit more.

So, turns out the QB2 is worth the time and effort in my books. I'm not saying this is the best IEM in the price range; but definitely a great contender for "bang for your buck" category. At the moment, I'm really impressed with the value the QB2 brings. Despite of all these, they do have some minor faults just like any other IEM. I'll be happy to point them out in my final review tomorrow when I finally get to have a day off from work.

Cheers!

Are those MH1C tips sold separately?

No, but if you buy the MH1 for €10 you get 20 tips with it...

Meh, while that's cheap, I'm not sure I'm going to jump on that offer. The actual earphone would probably be of no use to me. I've heard truly terrible things about its cable. Thanks anyway.

Sadly, no...but if you purchase an MH1 (which goes for about $20 these days) you get 8 pairs of varying size and color.

Edit:  Sorry, I had the tab open for about 20 minutes and it seems others jumped in pretty quick :p

Thanks for replying anyway. :x

Those tips do sound nice, but buying the MH1 in addition to the Quadbeat 2 would result in spending an amount of money that probably could've got me a nicer IEM.

I have a pair of the LG GB2 and think they're great.  They're certainly better to me than the similarly priced VSonic VSD1, both in sonics and build quality.  I pick up cheap IEM's as essentially disposable items for certain activities, but these are built well enough to last and sound good enough to be someone's main IEM.

While that is good to hear, and I really do like my new Quadbeat 2, I don't quite share your enthusiasm. This might be because they haven't burned in yet, or because I'm not a fan of EQing my headphones/IEMs or simply due to our different sound preferences. I hope I can come round to your views, though.

EDIT: I'm slow. Ebay seems to have quite a few as well, which is better if you're from the EU.

Lolz. Sure mate, your in (^_^)

Yeah, them AKG's were painful but I think they were the first headphone to make me grin when I put them on and played some Beyoncé! I then proceeded to gift the magic!

My last entry towards this experience before sending these off.

Ok, a fellow head-fi'er gave me these EQ settings(thank you BTW!):

20 Hz + 0 dB (anchor)
128 Hz - 5 dB
1 kHz + 0 dB
2 kHz + 2.5 dB
4 kHz - 0.5 dB
8 kHz - 5 dB
10 kHz + 0 dB (anchor)
20 kHz + 0 dB (anchor)

Hold on, I'm going to try and copy paste my reply...

Source is an iPhone 4 playing iTunes AAC through the Accudio app.

What I did was enter the EQ settings wile listening to a song(your EQ settings already applied). I then went to a frequency setting, closed my eyes, rapidly tab the on/off switch, then slowly taped while attempting to figure out when it was on. When I felt confident, I opened my eyes, I did this five times. The results?

Song one:

Frequency switched:

5 of 5 correct.

I felt some of the veil was lifted from the subbass tho clarity/texture was still poor compared to GR07's and H200's, especially H200's.

Song two:

Frequency switched:

0 of 0 correct.

I didn't even try. Could tell no difference. I fail at life.

Frequency switched:

5 of 5 correct:

I didn't like this EQ. I felt vocals and instrument were clouded. I in fact liked the effect raising 11000 had when I tried doing this by myself, tho I only listened for a bit. Raising the sub bass was also liked tho then trying to down the midbass wile the sub was raised made the phones sound odd. Your EQ down low is better, up high I'm having problems with...

Thoughts?
