I need a truely portable amp/dac combo (no PB2 and DB2 stack) with a powerful output (750mW or higher) that isn't the HiFi M8 LX (because I need coaxial and not toslink optical input) which I can use as both a portable and desktop solution because boarding.

Are you looking for a single amp/dac unit or is a stack acceptable?  If you can do the later the Fiio E17/E12 would suit you.  The E17 has an option to connect coaxial digital input and the E12 has a rated output of >880mv@32ohm.  Also what source and cans are you planning to use?

I am looking for a single amp/dac unit under US$1000 to serve as my primary amp and dac until I stop boarding in another country. I am planning to use orthos such as the HEx00 or Alpha Dog (haven't decided which one yet) and I plan to use the DX50 as my source. I am not sure whether the FiiO amps are good enough to drive those.

I understand my requirement is quite lofty and if there is currently nothing that can meet all the requirements then oh well. Thanks for your help!

I had my hopes up on the M8 until I found out it had a toslink input instead of coaxial *shakes fist* smily_headphones1.gif

If your looking to drive the Alpha Dog single ended then the O2+ODAC drives it well...   it costs $280 from JDSlabs...

two different ways to go...  O2 and ODAC stand alone... or the O2+ODAC combo...     the main difference is with the stand alone version you can use the O2 with the built in battery... the stand alone ODAC does not require any external power source as it runs off of the USB port....

the O2+ODAC requires that the unit be plugged into the wall with the power adapter...

I'm using the Leckerton UHA-6S.MKII with my Alpha Dogs and I am very satisfied with them. The O2/ODAC combo sounds the same but provides more volume. I don't feel the extra power is necessary so I'm sticking with my UHA-6S.MKII.
