New to head-fi and looking for some kicking cans for my XE-STX.

Just got a roommate and need to get some cans going, never had open back headphones before and worried these might be too loud while my roomie is asleep rooms apart. These would be mainly for music (rock, techno, and Hanz Zimmer) but also for FPS gaming. Currently have the Xonar Essence STX, and thinking of either the Sennheiser HD598 or even the 650's. Looking at all the other threads here, and it looks like i'm new to all of these other brands with no experience.

My concerns are mainly the bass as i love Techno. Would the 598 with the STX be good enough? i'm not looking for a romp per say but just worried i won't even be able to feel it at all as i know these cans need a good amp.

These wouldnt be for portable use, but solely attached to my PC.  Could i save money and have and have a better experience from the DT990s?

What would you pair up with the STX for music and gaming if you have to chose one pair right now? broad question i know but trying to decide tonight.

Beyerdynamic DT990, full bass & full treble, which slightly over shadows the mids, but the mids are clear.

Good headphone for action movies (movie theater like audio)

If your ok with that kind of a headphone, then get the DT990.

Thanks,

I might go with this; Do these sound better than the Sennheiser HD 598's in your opinion?

I own the HD558s.

I would say the DT990 have more to like, there is more "life" in their sound.

Some have described the Sennheiser HD 5XX series as a little boring or veiled, I like the sound of my HD558s just fine

Bought my used Beyerdynamic T70s from Amazon Warehouse, no problems.
