Seeking Suggestion and Advice First time buying headphone

Hello experts,

I recently decided to purchase an over-the-ear headphone to mainly use in indoor space - my room, library, and etc.

I prefer to buy a  new one and my budget is US $200.

As I research more and more about the headphones, it gets more difficult to pick a right one.

I will mainly use my iPhone and Desktop as a source.  I am looking for a headphone that is a good starting point for a starter.

With that being said, I kindly ask experts in this forum to provide thoughts and suggestions.

Thanks much in advance,

#Update

Thanks to Me x3, I have updated my wish list.

I listen to a lot of R&B, hip-hop, and classics.  So headphone that is best for that type of music would be very ideal. However, as I understand my budget restriction I am willing to adjust my preference.

I am looking for a headphone for relaxation purpose – listening to music is a great escape from my daily work.

Please let me know if any additional information could be provided so I can get better help from you guys!

Thanks much!

What kind of music do you normally listen to? Do you need isolation?

Closed headphones: good isolation and good sub bass response most of the times.

Open headphones: better separation and sounstage. And also smoother frequency response most of the times.

Another important thing is to think if you are looking for a relaxed sounding headphone to just sit and relax or a more agressive, detailed and analytical headphone to just sit and discover that you are hearing sounds you never heard before in your favourite songs.

The V-moda M-80 is a good choice and is below $200 if you want the Trueblood Branding ( they are called the V-80 ) and is $150 on amazon currently. They are on-ear headphones that is semi-closed headphone because of the ports on the outside.

I only use Closed headphones and prefer them even for relaxation purposes myself but based on reviews the Sennheiser HD558 looks like a good choice for you if you want a open headphone. I Am considering buying it because I want to try a open headphone and they are currently $129 on amazon (MSRP is $179)

Sennheiser HD558/598 are very good options. Smooth sounding headphones with good soundstage. Great for relax purposes. You can also try Pioneer Se A1000 which is really cheap these days (50 dollars) MSRP 200 dollars. This is also a smooth sounding headphone with great soundstage.

Important: HD558/598 and Se A1000 lacks bass impact and sub bass. Probably not the best choice for hip hop.

You should also consider Philips Fidelio L1. They are warm with dark highs (good for most modern recordings IMO) This headphones have great bass extension but are still balanced sounding. Good all rounders. Less refined than HD598 for classical music for sure but probably a better all rounder.
L1s built quality is really really good. One of the best at its price point.

Best Luck!

I think the value you get out of the 558 trumps the 598 specially since now they are 130 now on amazon.
