Need help: Sennheiser HD 598 for classical music and jazz.

Hey guys! I discovered the audiophile world two days ago, so I know nothing about headphones and amps. Anyways, I came to this forum to ask you guys about the Sennheiser HD 598. Will these headphones work for me?

I listen to classical and jazz mostly, and I only listen FLAC and Lossless audio from my laptop. I can't afford an amp if I buy these headphones, so... What should I do? Should I choose a less expensive headphones and buy an amp? Or will these work fine with my laptop without an amp for the kind of music I listen to?

Sorry for my horrible redaction, but English isn't my first language.

Greetings from Venezuela! :)

I think the HD558s provide a better value, for the price.

And the HD598 and HD558 use the same driver, just difference cup designs.

FiiO E10 USB-DAC-Amp sell in the USA between $63-$75.

The ELE EL-D02 sells for $20, very basic USB-DAC-amp

Ships from Asia, it's sold on the Internet and eBay.

I have the 558 which, as Purple Angel says above has the same driver as the 598 and is cheaper. I too listen mainly to classical and Jazz and the 558s are great for this and I am sure the 598s are as well. Although these are easy to drive and sound OK unamped you really want an amplifier to get the best out of them. I recommend getting a dac as well for best results. The little Fiios (I began with the E7, now upgraded to the E07K) are pretty good and are inexpensive but for best sound I prefer a desktop unit. I use the Aune T1 which is a Tube dac with a built in solid state amp. It is great with these phones with classical and jazz (some tube rolling may be necessary to find your preferred sound) but it runs about $200 USD. There are plenty of other units both tube and solid state that cost less. You might enjoy getting the phones first and seeing how you feel about them straight from your laptop and move up from there.
Good luck! Welcome to Head Fi.
