Those recomendations are prolly better than the Orpheus anyways. Who would spend $15k when they could much better sound quality with a $200 pair of beats. wink.gif

On a serious note, those recomendations are pretty comical smily_headphones1.gif

$605 for shipping !!??  Are they being delivered on the wings of angels? That is totally outrageous.

And if they ship via UPS ,Fedex or DH L you can probably double the purchase price of the headphones due to ridiculous brokerage fees,

taxes, duties etc.  Probably would be cheaper to fly to Germany and personally pick them up.

I still can't get over the $605 + shipping costs !!

I purchased my mint pair of Baby Orpheus HE-60 from Australia and paid less than $40 for shipping !

They're packed in angel feathers in an unobtanium case for ultimate protection.

Anyone that's prepared to spend $16,800 + on audio equipment, would do better to spend that amount on a source, not headphones.
No matter how good the HE-90's are supposed to be.

About 10-11 years ago, at the NY stereophile show, they had an Orpheus system and a Stax SR007 system (with an 007t amp) in the same room and I spent a good deal of time listening to both.

I remember firmly concluding that both were pretty great and sounded different but each had plusses and minuses and I could not decide which I liked better.

So I concluded that the Stax system was quite a bargain. I did think the Orpheus was more comfortable though, since the old Mark 1 SR007 had too shallow pads for me.

But for overall sound quality and insight into the sound, and the combination of detail and smoothness, it was a draw to me.

The music was classical and Jazz.

Only on head fi will somebody call a $3,000 pair of headphones a bargain.

As always, bargains can only be determined relative to some other comparator(s), appreciating that some will never accept that certain "bargains" can ever be "bargains" because there is something out there that does the same thing for less (like a silver fork does the same thing as a steel fork that does the same thing as a plastic fork).
