Looking for headphone to buy under $100. Gaming and variety of music.

I am looking for a new pair of headphones for about $100 but if i  have to stretch it i could maybe pull off $130 at most. I have no preference when it comes to open or closed. I just want the headphones to be Full-Sized, Circumaural. These are strictly going to be used at home with my Desktop using a Asus xonar DG sound card.

I will be using the headphones for mostly music listening and gaming. I don't play fps so a huge soundstage really isn't a requirement. The music I listen to tends to be all around the place since about the only music i listen to anymore are the video game remixes from ocremix. I tend to like a little bit of bass but nothing overpowering, I would like a smooth midrange, and the highs really arent that important as long as they aren't too fatiguing.

Sorry if those terms aren't used correctly XD. First time really trying them

Some recommendations I've considered and seen. A side note that I can't really try on headphones as the closest place is over 2 hours away.

Shure srh440

Sennheiser 518/558(If I decide to go up to the $130)

Koss DJ100

AKG K240

Jaycar(supposedly a Brainwavz hm5 clone?)

Sony mdr-v6/7506

Creative Aurvana Live!

This isn't a final list so any other recommendations would be appreciated as well.

Looks like you already did your homework for some good choices smily_headphones1.gif

Check out the NVX Audio XPT100 on Amazon. Those are also a Brainwavz "clone" (although clone is not quite right since one manufacturer makes them and then different companies get them rebranded) but with a flexible headband. Comes with two sets of different ear pads.

Sony mdr-v6/7506 are very good for the type of sound signature you describe. Many people find them more comfortable if you replace the ear pads with the Beyerdynamic DT250 pads.

Also look into the Takstar Pro 80. They are another headphone like the Jaycar/Brainwavz/NVX which is manufactured with different branding for multiple companies (see this thread).

I think I've decided on one of the various fa-003 rebrands. But is there any real differences from any of them? Like sound wise?

There are head-fi discussion, impression, and review threads on most of those different brand versions. Best bet is to research and ask in them. Use "head-fi" as a keyword on a google search of the various makes and models. They will be easy to find smily_headphones1.gif

I have the HM5 (rebranded FA-003), nice clarity, but no real bass.

Personally I myself would prefer my Gemini HSR-1000 (Takstar Pro 80), over the HM5s.

Unless you need to block noise, maybe go an open headphone.

If I were to go with an open headphone what would you suggest?

The three I have up there are the ones I've come across as recommended the most.

AKG K240

After a couple days of researching I've decided on getting the Sennheiser HD558.
