Oppo PM-1: A New Planar Magnetic Headphone! - Page 94

Very interested in this news, a bit above the segment I thought they go at (Fostex TH500RP and Hifiman HE560 from this years batch) - but it does come with a very nice case and headphone stand if I recall correctly.

I'm interested in getting one of the 3 of them, from what I've seen the comfort on all 3 *should* be better than the Audezes and previous Hifimans.

What I don't understand is why they know enough to advertise in their main source of buyers, the online sites like Headfi, but neglect to give input in the threads.
Who else would spend over $1k on a headphone?
Edit:
Still I like these over an LCD tongue.gif

apart from the various opinions, there has been a recent period with only expensive things(headphones and amplifiers) like stax sr-009, apex Pinnacle and company, etc. etc.

now, are coming out hedphones, amplifiers, dac, etc. with an affordable price and good performance.

i think that is good for the customers

The description on the website says:

>>The OPPO PM-1’s ear cushions are made out of the highest quality natural latex,

I know it will be covered with leather, but as someone with a latex allergy, I think this rules out the PM-1 for me. Latex allergies are fairly common, can be very serious, and often get worse with repeated exposure.

Some planar magnetic headphone efficiency and impedance specs--looks like the PM-1 is very efficient.

HE-6 83.5 (dB/mW) 50 (ohms)
HE-500 89 38
LCD-3 91 45
LCD-X 96 22
PM-1 102 32

The PM-1 was designed to be used with the widest range of devices as possible, which means allowing for a cellphone, tablet, or portable gaming device to easily drive it. So it is not surprising that the PM-1 has incredibly high efficiency and low impedance.

The sides remind me of my old Jimmy Connors tennis racquet I had back in the 80s.

That is just how OPPO works. OPPO prefers to run things as democratically as possible and not to interfere with public discourse. They want the public to moderate, as it where, themselves and not rely on manufacturer spokespersons to control, steer, or promote specific discussions. This is how they have treated the community on AVS Forums (arguably their breadbasket for the past 9 years) and not surprisingly the same way they are treating the the community here are Head-Fi.
