Oppo PM-1: A New Planar Magnetic Headphone! - Page 9

I'll go with $800

I'll say $699.00 I agree that they look like they are not going to be entry level priced, mid-tier instead.

Wouldn't it be clever market research of them to see what price point people settle on here and in other forums, then set their price accordingly to what it looks like the market will support.

"How much would you give us for our budget-oriented ortho you've never heard and whose visual design we kinda copied from somewhere else?"

"$699!"

I think somewhere between $350-500 is possible, if they are marketing toward portable use.

$500-750 if they are aiming toward hi-fi home use applications.

Imagine our surprise when they come out with a price in the $1K realm.

Isn't that kinda what Audeze pulled?

Nah, I think that most people expected the closed LCD to be expensive, though not that expensive. We got word from Audeze that they'd be somewhere between the LCD-2 and LCD-3 in price.

As an OPPO Blu Ray player dealer I was given the heads up for this sometime ago so it is great to see them in the flesh at last, they certainly look the part.

OPPO never doing anything half hearted, a few years ago they were the new upstarts in the DVD player market, now they virtually have the high end BD player market to themselves so it will be fascinating to see and hear how these headphones perform, I for one have very high hopes.

I mean at the very beginning of their headphone business. I thought they were projecting their orthos to be like $400?

I am in agreement, I wish for the best success of Oppo to pull this off. It only makes sense they get deeper into the audiophile market since that has been their direction with their latest players. The cell phone could be a really awesome product for SQ too! I need to dig up more info on that...

I'm speculating $600, but I do hope they continue the tradition of setting the benchmark at lower price points.

I had a chance to play with their top smartphone a couple of months ago, I really had no idea that they were such big players in this area tbh, but I was massively impressed, if it was available in the UK I would swap my Galaxy S3 for it tomorrow, so like I said, these guys don't muck around so it will be fascinating to see how their headphones stack up, needless to say I will have a pair in here on demo as soon as avialble, I wonder how well they will work with the headphone out on the OPPO BDP-105 :-)

weren't they at the show, are there any impressions yet?

Also if the housing around the cups is real metal, then it's fine. If that is feaux metal, aka plastic, then that would be a big issue with me.

It also looks like the cable is non-detachable. Not sure though. I mean, they look pretty good just not gorgeous to me. As long as they sound great and are reasonably priced then I'm fine.

Though you may not like the looks of it from pictures, I bet they look marvelous in real life.

The cables look detachable by my eyes, I could be wrong though.
