Compared to the more expensive Audio GD DACs, these use a higher number of SMDs (surface mount devices), which reduce size and manufacturing cost by mounting components directly onto PCBs.

However, some think the older through hole construction (components with wire leads that are soldered onto the PCB) DACs sound better.

The NFB 3.32, 3.33 and 17.32 feature SMD components. The NFB2.32 does not - through-hole all the way!

^^ Cheers. The DAC has arrived at my mailing address - I'll only be able to go collect it next weekend.   Looking forward to seeing how it performs - right now, I am using a HifimeDIY USB DAC with my Macbook.

Nice one. The NFB2.32 will improve with age, but it should trump the hifimediy (I own one too, and have owner and/or heard the NFB2 and NFB3 in the past).

For your situation, consider the iDac. The Peachtree DacIt is simply a beautiful unit for the cheap price (can be found regularly for $300-$350) and it synergizes with basically everything I throw at it, including my HD800's (no small feat, paired with Schiit Lyr and warm tubes). The iDac is basically the DacIt with a direct iPod dock on top and some additional filtering options.

Peachtree gear has a strange sound to it. Both revealing and warm/musical at the same time, relaxed and not really in your face, low end that can be felt but does nothing to hurt the mids/highs. I had no expectations for the DacIt when I got it and was supposed to be a cheapy, entry level DAC for my cubicle, but I can't bear to take it out of my home set-up right now. I'm still going to fish around for other gear, but it's definitely my reference going forward.
