headphones for 2-300 dollars

i am looking for headphones in the 2-300 dollar range as of now to go with a schiit asgard 2 amp. i don't want the sound colored at all, and i don't necessarily need alot of bass, but prefer a nice balanced sound between bass, mids, and highs. i am looking for on ear, but could be persuaded to an over the ear model. i'm going to be listening to analog music. any suggestions appreciated.

Is there a particular reason why you are looking for on-ear as opposed to over-ear?  Are you looking for closed or open headphones?  If you don't mind open and over-ear, many people consider the Sennheiser HD600s to be very neutral and balanced.  If you are looking for closed and over-ear, K550s are supposedly very balanced and neutral as well.

i guess now that i think about it, i want to go with over the ear. and when you say closed or open, what do you mean, like noise cancelling headphones? i just looked up the akg k550's with the closed design and they look pretty nice.

This video will probably do a better job than I can at explaining the difference.  If you plan to take your headphones on the go, or to listen in public places though, then closed headphones are pretty much a must.
