What DAC should I get to go with the Matrix M-Stage?

Hey guys like the title says, I am looking for a DAC that pairs well with the Matrix M-Stage. My budget is preferably under $250. The setup will be paired with the HE-400 and HD600. I am looking for opinions mainly from people who have owned the M-Stage and have paired it with more than one DAC. I am open to all suggestions. My only requirement is that I do not want the combo to sound "harsh". I know some DACs have the reputation of being a bit harsher than others. I am also not picky about inputs. USB only is fine but I would obviously be happy with multiple inputs.

Any particular reason why you would choose this DAC?

Good value, cheapest DAC I would recommend for your budget range.

Currently I'm looking at getting the Audio-GD 15.32 external DAC/amp, $275-$295

What about DACs that are not necessarily cheap? I don't have a problem paying up to $250 for a DAC if it is indeed better built and better sounding.

I'm not knowledagable enough about external DACs (without a headphone amplifier), in the $250 region to be able to recommend something,

Maybe HRT?

Are most of your components DAC/AMP combos?

All of my externals are separate DACs and headphone amplifiers (at least for now).

I own a few SMSL external DACs, but their reliability does not impress me.

Also have the $50 DAC Destroyer, (PCM2704) USB DAC.

The Zero DAC with HDAM op-amp upgrade had plenty of synergy (listened to K701Annies and HE400).  Very holographic imaging and good bass response.  Preferred it much over the Audinst HUD-MX1 that I was comparing it to.
