I would go for a used HD600 at your price range, funds permitting. If not, the HD598 will do just grand.

That's a pretty good deal for that STX. $110 + $12 shipping isn't bad. Are they a reliable and trustworthy company? I'm pretty iffy on buying from them since there's only a 15 day warranty on open box merchandise. How likely is it that the STX would break and how long do they usually last for? I don't know if it's worth paying the $48 more for a brand new one with 3 years warranty off of newegg.

I think I'm going to end up getting the HD598 since that HD600 is pricey, even the used ones.

CedarPC is a legitimate company. I bought my second GTX 670 from them, with no problems so far. If the unit breaks down, it will most likely be within 2 weeks. This is just from personal and shared computer/gadget experiences over the years.

How long would it take to "break in" the HD598? Could I just leave some music playing at a moderate level while I'm away to break it in quicker?

Headphone break in takes no longer than a minute. Brain break in requires around half an hour of active listening. I, during my short tenure as an audiophile, have purchased a significant amount of gear--most of it, new. This new gear "needed" to be "broken in." I have never been able to tell the difference between a device used for an hour and one used for 200 hours. What does make a difference is brain burn in. After switching to a new headphone after using another for an extended period of time, your brain needs to take the time to adjust to the new sound signature. I liken it to driving a new car; it may seem strange at first, but, in time, its flaws, and, later, strengths, will become apparent.

TL; DR: Don't leave your headphones on for a week. It won't be helping anyone. Just sit and listen for half an hour, and let all the burn in BS flow on by.

The HD 598 keep slowly dropping in price on Amazon a couple dollars each day lol. Does anyone know what's going on and should I wait a couple more days to see if they drop even more?

I think the cheapest a new HD598 has every been (that I know of) is $180, about a year ago.

I think that's only for in-store purchase.

The price on Amazon went back up to $200. ):

That's still not bad. Have you considered purchasing off of the For Sale section of the forum?

I just purchased the Essence STX from newegg and the HD598 from Amazon.

I can't wait for them to get here!

I usually use Windows Media Player and iTunes to play my 320kbps music, but I've read somewhere that there are programs that have better playback quality than WMP and iTunes. So would WMP and iTunes be fine, or is there another program that you guys recommend I should get?

I believe Mel Gibson has problems seeing the keys on a smart phone keyboard also.

Remember to disable the motherboard's on-board audio, in the BIOS.

When you install any internal sound card.

Programs to try,

"Unified Xonar Drivers" third party Xonar software.

"Foobar2000" for playing audio files.
