The cable is the same. However, the connector is different: the 702 uses a mini-XLR while the Lemo connector was deployed in the 812... frown.gif

Thanks. I don't have a strong opinion about the effects of cables (except for balanced, which makes some sense), but they shouldn't bear noise and they should feel good and look good. My stock K702 cable doesn't bear noise, but it never fully lost the wrapped up form it had in the box and it feels a little sticky. My stock K501 cable is maybe very slightly thinner, but properly flexible and it feels smooth.

Thanks for mentioning how K812 sounds from your phone. We'll see how hi-fi the "portable audio revolution" gets.

Agreed, Claritas. This revolution of portable audio is particularly exciting portable players are using double Sabre DAC chips - that's higher specs than some desk top DACs.

I exchanged e-mails wth Drew of Moon Audio and he's working on a cable for the K812. It's not done yet though...

You won't regret your decision. I am really blown away by it right now. And I'm still burning it in. :)

Excellent! I was going to ask Drew as well about plans for  Black Dragon for the 812. Please do update the group if you hear about release date. Excitement!

That's great to hear from somebody with your extensive collection of cans. I plan on driving them with either the DX90 or X5, which ever comes out on top. For now it will only be the X3 (sadly).

I will update the thread if I hear anything about the cable.

I wonder if tyll will ever change his stance on actually reviewing the k812. I mean the world is not exactly falling apart without it, but i sure would like to get to the bottom of the funky measurements.
On the one hand i can understand why might not want to express negative opinions of something others hold in high regard. On the other that's his job, surely? Not to be controversial, but to express his opinions clearly and fairly for us readers.
I'd assume that akg own impressive setups for measuring things so i'm sure the 812 at least cannot measure that terribly. In fact one would expect big-name manufacturers to do the corporate thing and make perfectly-measuring headphones that don't sound particularly special. So to my mind, something is not right.

Now we have members familiar to high-end gear saying they find the 812's among the best out there, may be there's something wrong with tyll's results?

If he measured a particular model and it measured quite well but sounded mediocre, I doubt that many people would question the measurements. This seems like a variant on "maybe he got a bad batch."

If we accept it as a given that nothing was wrong with his set up or that particular K812, the first reasons that come to mind for the discrepancy between the measurements and listeners' reports are that measurements don't tell us enough about how a model sounds or that the listeners have a positive bias or both.
I surely have no positive bias for AKG. I don't like anything else they make at all.

Nothing and I never mentioned that.

Fact the K812 is not ringing or something like that. In this case Tyll is absolutely wrong.

Not in all cases you can really hear a bad measurement and in case of K812 you cannot hear it !

Let us put a petition in place to Tyll, that request a proper review.

We could also try crowd funding......

What ever you want ;)

Do you ever listen to it ? If so then you know that "you" is correct :L3000:.

Anyway I like my HD800 more and that's why I kept him instead of the K812.

Can you (K812 owners) please comment bit more on the midrange, does it have more solidity and 'body' in it or is it rather holographic, estats-like as with HD800?
