I have been following this thread for some time as I plan to buy the AKG 812 in the near future (I liked the AKG 702 when I had heard them briefly but they do sound mid-fi when compared to other TOTL HP's i own hence wanted to buy a TOTL AKG) . Yes, I was a bit reluctant to buy them after Tyl's review (almost all the HP's in my collection have been bought blind , solely based on research as there is no place where I can demo TOTL HP's where i live) & in fact i had unsubscribed from this thread. But after that  I found  that Tyl also doesn't think highly of 2 other HP's that I really like - T1's & TH900. In fact  he thinks highly about  LCD3 , which I don't like & will never buy, as I found them dark for my taste after I tried  a friends pair. Hence it always important to know a reviewers taste / preferences & what he considers as reference HP's before letting the review influence ones decision. That said Tyl remains one of my favorite reviewers as I really like the way that he reviews stuff.

So these are back again on my list of HP's to buy.

Amen to that. Tyll does great work, but his headphone preferences are not mine. I owned the LCD 3 for several months before selling them. Way to dark sounding for my tastes, and just uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time.
I've been enjoying the K812 for months now, and they are my all time favorite phone. If you enjoy the AKG house sound, then these are the ultimate expression of everything you already like, but much better, and supremely comfortable.

Is the distortion audible? And when do you guys think a MKII version will be available which will hopefully fix the treble issue?

That's presupposing that 1) AKG thinks there's a problem, 2) they can do anything about it, and 3) they will do something about it. I think 1 to 3 also goes from most likely to least likely.

Finally got my DX90 + X5.

K812 + DX90 => Mind blown. :L3000: (This thing sounds like the Concero + clean powerful amp section (Concero HP?))

X5 is aite (much MUCH better than the X3 but there is a hotter girl in the room right now)

The overwhelming majority who have posted on this thread who actually own the K812 have posted very positive feedback. Many who were at first concerned about the treble issue have posted that given burn in time, it's hardly an issue at all for them. The most negative posts have come from people who don't own the K812, and should be taken with a huge grain of salt. I would give much more weight on the comments and real life impressions of those who live with the K812 everyday over some who are little more than negative naysayers who can only find fault with a headphone based on one review. There are a number of pro reviews on the 812 out there now, and they have all been positive.
Is the 812 perfect, of course not, nor is any other headphone on the market. But these sound damn good and deserve to be heard before judged.

Congratulations my friend. Can you post some detailed descriptions once you settle in?
Enjoy!

Thanks Macbob! :beerchug: Been looking forward to this day. OMG can't believe I went for two months with only the X3... talk about slumming it. Haha. Even the X5 is way better. The K812 has finally be unleashed and it's soaring like an angel with the DX90. I will update with more thoughts when I'm ready.

I'm glad your happy with it. Having the right amp makes all the difference with every high quality can. It's really amazing to hear the 812 take flight when properly juiced. To my ears this is without a doubt the finest dynamic driver phone yet. Fly high bro and and enjoy the ride. It only gets better from here.
