Sure you can hook it up to a portable player, tablet, phone but most likely you won't be getting the sound which you deserve out of the headphone. I made the mistake of trying to connect it to an AV-ampliefier and wondered what happened to the clarity, lower register, etc. Sennheiser HD800 had also these effects but to a much lesser degree, with the K812 Pro it felt like it was a totally different (worse) headphone.
The K812 sounds great out of my smartphone. Best headphone I've heard coming from my smartphone directly.

Has anyone tried a WA6 with these? I'm a bit wary about Woo because I used to own the WA7 and personally was not too impressed at the price range. But I'm looking for a relatively small amp that goes well with these.

Currently using K812 at work at low volumes with my smartphone and it's quite impressive. But when I have it side by side with my HD800 and Questyle, it sounds congested in comparison.

This doesn't mean that it isn't sensitive to amping. The K7xx series gets loud enough through any amp, but the signature can change drastically depending on what is powering it. Synergy still needs to be taken into account.

  1. Is Tyll's measurements on both K812 pairs sent to him generally representative of all K812 models?
  2. Do they plan to make a balanced version?
  3. Are they working on a better flagship?
  4. Are they going to price drop the K812?

Currently, it is hard to care about the K812 when the HD800 is technically better and available used or new at a cheaper cost. There is going to be even less reason to care if Sennheiser is making a flagship, mass production electrostatic headphone. The current price of the K812 is far too high and if a newer model is made then it would be competing against the Sennheiser electrostat which would be suicide.

Anyway, I think this is going to be the year Sennheiser gives Stax a kick in the teeth and it has been sorely needed. $5000 headphones from a company that doesn't seem to be engaged in a global market is unacceptable. Hopefully, Sennheiser will price it lower than the SR-007 which would force Stax to do something. We need more flagship competition.
Is a Sennheiser electrostatic hp just a rumor?
