I think you're on to something. I may have to get a spare or TWO as well. I've seen K1000s go for over $2K USD on eBay. There may be an investment opportunity here. smily_headphones1.gif

Boosted treble can give the impression of more detail, cleanness, and refinement but that doesn't necessarily mean it's sound is inherently more refined or detailed. The two headphones are very different and take a different approach to present sound. Neither is necessarily better or worse than the other, which is viewed as better will simply depend more on the person. I personally thought the K812 was the more detailed and transparent headphone of the two, but that's really just my opinion.

Nomax, did you order your several K812s from the same place? If not, I'm curious to know how consistent they sound.

Your'e welcome!
AKG K812 is a HIGH QUALITY HAND MADE FLAGSHIP MADE in AUSTRIA!
So the k812 is in my OPINION ONE OF THE BEST SOUNDING HEADPHONES at THIS TIME!
Better then sennheiser's HD 800!but for the OFFICAL Price a Little Bit OVERPRICED!
I love THE AIRY SOUND of the K812 and the BUILD QUALITY is the BEST since FOSTEX TH 900(they are My FAVORITE BABY)

So you are a classical/Jazz Music lover or you hear audiophil Music take the K812!or you are listening a Lot of ROCK&POP take the TH900!

I would say comparing the two is difficult because the HD800s are so revealing of upstream gear and harder to drive. With the MAD Ear+HD/DacMagic, I preferred the T1s, but when I upgraded my amp and dac, the HD800s pulled ahead. I wonder how they would compare on a top flight rig? Looks like the K812s are fairly simple to drive in comparison. Actually, I like this new trend FWIW.

Not sure how much the objective measurements would vary? But here the HD800s have it hands down. Hoping to hear the K812s soon! I really liked the T1s and these look to have improved on their sound.

comparing them was pretty straight forward for me. both were hooked up to the same rig and i listened to my own music.
